Ching Ming or Tomb-sweeping Day. It lasts one day and is April 5 this year. It is also observed in other countries besides China.

In Hong Kong it is 1 day. Just Thursday. In China it is three days. Thurs-Sat (though Sat is off anyway), and Sunday is a working day, but children will still be off Sunday, so Sunday will not be affected that much. Thurs and Friday being holidays will boost those days.

It is also 1 day in Taiwan. By the way, Ching Ming (or Qīng Míng) is a fixed date matching a solar term in the lunisolar calendar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_term). It is interesting how China randomly stretches a 1-day solar phenomenon into a 3-day holiday when it used to be a non-holiday there.

They do it so people have a block of days off together. If a festival falls on a Wednesday, for example, they will move the days off at the weekend so people can have three days in a row as opposed to just the Wednesday off. Sometimes it works out good, other times not. But it's China's way of doing it.

Just realized that this will be out in 3rd weekend of IW in China. Don't think it is bad but that could take away a lot of buzz from the movie. Algren when is DP2 releasing in China?
