Re: China Box Office A Monster Calls was getting 1 matinee showtime per day (sometimes two), and it was a limited release, so that's not surprising. But Life has no excuse! It was everywhere with at least 7 showtimes per day.
It just seems that Dangal is in the public crosshairs at the moment and not much else can get a look in.

It just seems that Dangal is in the public crosshairs at the moment and not much else can get a look in. I think that's a good OW for LIFE, it underperformed everywhere and the reviews aren't great either, but that's the last thing Chinese audience will care about and Dangal recorded the second highest third weekend of all time just behind Zootopia in China and now it's also the highest grossing non-hollywood imported film over there, previously it was Your Name.

Re: China Box Office Mediocre for Life. It was marketed to the max, has big names attached, given the showtimes, and has a Gravity-esque feel ... and it only did $13m opening weekend. The Chinese market is much more frontloaded than the US, so that is an underwhelming opening, in my opinion.

Re: China Box Office China doesn't love ALL brands. I mean, Smurfs 3 hasn't cracked $25m yet and it's been out for a month.  And I think Prometheus and both Alien vs. Predator films were not released in China, so not sure this particular brand is something that will get people into the multiplexes. Re: China Box Office Prometheus did release in China in Sept 2012. Release dates back then were horrible with TASM/TDKR/Prometheus/Expendables all opened within a week of each other. It still did 200m yuan+ which was not bad. Alien Covenant should do double that number.

Re: China Box Office And Alien: Covenant is opening 5 days before Transformers: The Last Knight, and 7 days after The Mummy - also still in release will be Wonder Woman. It doesn't stand much of a chance, in my opinion.

Re: China Box Office My local cinema has 23 showings for Salazar's Revenge tomorrow. Insane.
I want to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 again before it leaves, and I need to catch Ratchet & Clank (out tomorrow, 27th), so I hope Salazar's Revenge can take everybody away from those two films so I can have some peace and quiet. I will catch Salazar's Revenge after the busy period.
