So it's out here on 29th June. Can't wait.

Nice, I like enough how they played with the title on the poster there, but the background is still a bit iffy. Also no mention of "Hades" here.
I just get a strong, lesser quality vibe from this sequel. Hope the film turns out to surprise me, as so far I'm not feeling it.

Really liked that title in the poster.

So, Black Water, the Van Damme-Dolph Lundgren submarine actioner, gets a theatrical release here on 8th June. I'm actually thinking of going to see it, lol.

Walked by my local cinema today and saw an Escape Plan 2 digital poster for it with the date "22nd June". :whaa:

I did not see it yet, but Black Water made $6.3m on its opening weekend. I think that will be the (first and) last time Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren gets one of their non-franchise movies in cinemas in China ever again.

I checked the seats for Friday shows last week and they were all empty, so I am not surprised by this. Basically, nothing did well this weekend. The #1 film made just $9m. Nobody went to the cinema, it seems.

In other news, Infinity War is up to $365m. Nobody was interested in A Quiet Place, which made just $33m total gross.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened to $112m, and today (Monday) is a holiday as well, so expect a great gross from today. Should be well over $200m by the end of next weekend, though Incredibles 2 does open on Friday.

No.
$210M-$220M will be the FINAL gross...

Unfortunately it looks like I2 will make the standard bland Pixar gross in China (= sub-50M total).

What was it about Coco that made it break out? Do the Chinese really like ghost stories?

Coco had the ancestor theme going for it, and was extremely well received. Animated films in China depend a lot on reception: get a rating of 9.4+ (Zootopia, Coco, maybe BH6 too) and you'll increase on your 2nd weekend, get a 9.0- and you'll disappear quickly.

Including Tuesday, it's up to $155m. So of course it will be over $200m by the end of next weekend, regardless of where it finishes.

There's a difference between "well over" and "over".
Besides, a reasonable trajectory for the next days could be 8/7/6/11.5/8.5, which would put it at 296 by Sunday.

Well, I did backtrack on the "well over" by saying that Incredibles 2 comes out Friday, so I'm just sticking with "over", which it should.

It's up to $170m with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to go.

By the way, I was right (which was obvious anyway since NOBODY bumped this to brag). It was at $202m by Sunday, and it's currently at $211m after a $4.5m Tuesday.

You replied to the post in which you said "well over" stating you were right because JW2 was only a couple of millions over the mark by Sunday.
Ooooookay.
Also, where does the NOBODY come from? 2 (!) users replied to you, and both of them had a remark about your "well over" statement - and they were right as JW2 was NOT "well over" 200M. Pepe was wrong about his final projection, but that clearly was a pretty goofy one.

I already backtracked on the "well over" part of that statement IN THAT VERY STATEMENT. So I was still right. It got over $200m. You certainly weren't right with your idiotic "296 by Sunday". ;)

And the NOBODY was meaning since actuals were released, nobody came back here to gloat, which is just proving that I was right even more.

Six user reviews have come in for Escape Plan 2: Hades on a popular Chinese movie app. The score was 3.8 a few days ago (with 0 reviews), now it's up to 4.3. The reviews haven't been great (a 1, 3, 6, 4, 2, and no score). Still, 93k people want to see it, and on DianPing it's up to 140k people. Friday's number will be interesting. It has midnights Thursday in some cinemas.

(Besides the fact you didn't quote your revised prediction but your initial statement - in fact the odd thing was that you claimed a victory by quoting a post of yours that was wrong).
Anyways, the forum was dead these days, and the few active users obviously didn't care about a statement you made in a poorly attended thread. Or you have the egocentricity of a 13 year old girl? It appears to be so.
Also, were did I say 296M was my prediction? I said that would be a "reasonable trajectory" (based also on the China thread on BOT), and that was related to your "well over" initial post. When you specified you backtracked - did I say anything? Did I say "you're wrong, this is not getting to 300M"? No. Because predicting 300M+ was reasonable, as it had about a 50/50 chance of happening (as the actual number of 302M shows), and depended on I2's opening and the amount of screens on Saturday (release date of a local pic, if I'm not mistaken).

It isn't going to get to $296m TOTAL, let alone by Sunday just gone. Just one of many mistakes you've made so far in this conversation. ;)

Currently at $214m total. It needs to be pulled from all cinemas or for China to get hit by an asteroid for you to be correct. ;)
