So........there is a chance that season 2 will have the SSV arc too? I'm hyped.... Though another route they could do is just have a break season in-between. Making season 2 a 2-cour season. That's what they did with their other 24-26 episodes series. In this case, how long can be the break between each cour? |

Tales of Zestiria also has one cour break. So it may be one cour break for season 2. Though they might just call it season 3 by then or something lol |

It was about time they announced the second season!! It was painfully obvious that the following arc was too long for a movie. As mentioned here multiple times. |

Embedded the links to the announcement and trailer (which I shared the subtitled version already put together) in the above post for everyone. The TV ratings are going to be absolutely enormous. I'm guessing Fuji TV got it. Remember that the reruns and specials for Season 1 (that aired a year prior and were already on streaming (Netflix)), were able to approach 10 million viewers when they were rebroadcast in primetime last fall/winter. Also, that announcement has almost 400,000 likes with over 200,000 replies already in Twitter after just 4 hours. |

Aniplex has their pre-existing relationship with Fuji TV from NoitaminA, so it's very likely that we'll see this air there rather than their usual Saturday night slot focused on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11. The other thing I'd like to highlight is that you only specified Netflix for streaming. Japanese anime stream on many more services that are local to Japan. In fact, Demon Slayer was added much later to Netflix. When it first broadcast, episodes were uploaded on Abema TV (same time as first broadcast), dTV, danime store, Amazon Prime Video, Fuji On Demand, Bandai Channel, GYAO!, NicoNico, Hikari TV, Hulu Japan, J:Com On Demand, Video Pass, U-Next, and Anime Housou. It was added later on Netflix, Video Market, music. jp, DMM Picture, Paravi, and Tsutaya TV. I understand that in the US streaming generally = Netflix for most people, but the market in Japan is much different. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Fuji pays more for the broadcast rights than Netflix could offer for the streaming rights (especially since Aniplex got burned a couple times before licensing titles to Netflix directly for worldwide release). |

I think adding the series to multiple platforms would be the right way to go because they probably need more audience to catch-up with the series before the expected second movie. I believe Netflix and Aniplex (and anymore platforms) should be given the title specially because the later is still not big worldwide. |

Flava'd vs The World wrote: But we have to watch the movie before season 2 right? Put that shit out already. I wasn't talking about US in particular before and I am sure Corpse wasn't either. As for the release I believe its more on US distributors at this point than Japanese distributors. I guarantee that the movie will eventually release in states and well before the new anime releases there. Its just the US is running in a delay mode. It will be out on streaming platforms only after its digital release which I believe will not happen till April end if not longer. Though I can understand the frustration specially now that it has so much momentum. |

Post subject: | Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Season 2 Announced |
The U.S. distributor for the movie is Funimation. I know they're wanting to give it a proper theatrical release (they released the dubbed trailer a couple weeks ago), but I think they're pretty limited to urban areas, larger cities in particular, based on their past releases, which just don't seem like they'll have theaters reopened in for quite some time still. Funimation has its own streaming service, so worst case they could premiere it on there in addition to limited theaters. I don't know how going the streaming route may cost them though. I doubt they'd charge a premium fee, and I doubt they'd gain many new subscribers either (especially if you can watch it under their free trial). Perhaps someone here knows more about this particular issue. Season 2 is unlikely to premiere before summer though, so still plenty of time to watch the movie before then. I'd even be surprised if it's before fall since they only announced a 2021 release versus a summer or fall 2021 timeframe. P.S. Thanks for the detailed posts ultimatemegax! |

Weekend Actuals (02/13-14): 01 (01) ¥199,346,030 ($1.9 million), -10%, ¥1,328,808,970 ($12.7 million), Loved Like a Flower Bouquet (Tokyo Theaters, Co./Little More) WK3 02 (---) ¥126,468,400 ($1.2 million), 0, ¥251,886,500 ($2.4 million), Detective Conan: The Scarlet Alibi (Toho) NEW 03 (02) ¥120,849,500 ($1.2 million), -17%, ¥37,488,979,550 ($359.0 million), Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (Toho/Aniplex) WK18 04 (---) ¥x82,177,180 ($784,000), 0, ¥175,562,820 ($1.7 million), First Love (Kadokawa) NEW 05 (03) ¥x68,755,320 ($656,000), -29%, ¥333,990,450 ($3.2 million), Jukai Village (Toei) WK2 06 (---) ¥x65,789,680 ($627,000), 0, ¥121,759,600 ($1.2 million), Under the Open Sky (Warner Bros.) NEW 07 (05) ¥x63,721,000 ($608,000), -07%, ¥1,553,207,900 ($14.9 million), Gintama: The Final (Warner Bros.) WK6 08 (06) ¥x50,245,800 ($479,000), N/A, ¥351,914,000 ($3.3 million), Endless SHOCK (Toho Video Division) WK2 09 (04) ¥x49,354,850 ($471,000), -33%, ¥2,070,369,100 ($19.9 million), Poupelle of Chimney Town (Toho) WK8 10 (08) ¥x30,585,300 ($292,000), -23%, ¥1,597,459,100 ($15.4 million), Pokemon: Coco (Toho) WK8 Guess what? Yes, yet another very good weekend. Note: All the openers debuted on Thursday this past week due to National Foundation Day landing there this year. >Loved Like a Flower Bouquet is doing incredibly well. Its third weekend, after increasing over its second weekend, is 4% higher than its opening weekend. ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million) would have been a great milestone to reach, and it still is, but it's going to surpass that mark next week. ¥2 billion (~$20 million) is the new goal, but honestly, even that's looking nearly guaranteed at this point. I think we can look forward to a total closer to ¥2.5 billion (~$25 million). >Detective Conan: The Scarlet Alibi, a special 3-week only compilation anime film, debuted strong in second place by selling 92,000 admissions on just 119 screens over the weekend frame, and selling 177,421 since opening on Thursday. This film is meant to get audiences ready for Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet in April which was delayed from last year. >Demon Slayer: Mugen Train continues it slaying ways, delivering yet another excellent hold. It hasn't dropped more than 17% on any weekend for a month now, and its weekday performance has been even stronger with them averaging ~10% declines (maybe even less) for over a month. Its admissions have now hit 27,270,721 after eighteen weeks. ¥40 billion (~$380 million+) remains the ultimate milestone. >First Love opened decently, selling 132,172 admissions over its first four-days in release on 319 screens from opening on Thursday. Reaching the ¥1 billion (~$10 million) milestone will be difficult, but anything reasonably close to the mark will be considered a decent performance here. |
