So even with better admissions IW is going to have much lower US total than the original Avengers.

Incredible for Conan. Is this also based on a regular manga like Naruto and one Piece? Or is this only a movie series?

Great for Peter Rabbit. Rampage flop is surprising, I thought giant creatures might be something that Japanese audience would like.

Is there any chance for Peter Rabbit to breakout somewhat?

I recently watched in theatres (finally!) and thought it was incredibly adorable and cute. Although that tends to go well for Japanese audiences, I suspect the fact it's live action / CGI may prevent any sort of background.

What do you think Corpse?

Umm.. it debuted this past weekend. :P Just check the past batch of posts. It opened in second place to a so-so start. It'll reach about ¥1 billion ($10 million).

I know it did! :P

I was wondering if it could have big holds or even an increase next weekend?

What's the WOM like?

Reviews and audiences scores are a bit above average (3.5/5 level reviews). It's very hard to develop strong legs in May and June (WOM has to be incredible), however, since they're weak months for the box-office in Japan, so I don't see any signs of Peter Rabbit really going beyond a normal performance right now.

Random question Corpse, but do you know what the biggest overall weekends are of all time? (i.e. combined gross of all movies that Sat+Sun, or even just top 10/12 if all is too difficult)

Question: Is Conan having a regular manga like Naruto and One Piece? Or is this only a movie series?

Question: Is Conan having a regular manga like Naruto and One Piece? Or is this only a movie series?

It's an ongoing manga in Shounen Sunday. At least 94 volumes are out, and it's been running since 1994. It also has a weekly TV series airing since 1996, which has passed 900 episodes.

Not much happening this weekend, although it's looking likely that Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer will, once again, reign atop the box-office. If it does, this will be its sixth-weekend at #1 in revenue, and seventh-consecutive weekend at #1 in admissions. And whether it achieves another weekend on top or not isn't going to keep it from surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi over the weekend to become the highest-grossing film of the year.

What a Wonderful Family! 3, the third film in the acclaimed series from renowned director, Yoji Yamada (86), should debut with a similar opening as its predecessors, which will be enough for second or third place. The film is Yamada's 84th theatrical release in a directing career spanning 57-years, so far.

Avengers: Infinity War will likely be within ¥100 million of outgrossing The Avengers to become the highest-grossing, non-Spider-Man, Marvel/DC film in the market after Sunday. It'll accomplish this achievement next weekend.

This weekend should be its last at #1.

Deadpool 2 nor Overdrive will set the box-office on fire next week or anything, but one of them (probably Deadpool 2) should take the top spot.

Corpse, are you planning a career overview of Steven Spielberg directed movies and Tom Cruise starrers?

I know Solo doesn't open for a while in Japan, but I was wondering if you have any predictions for it. Solo appears to be dropping more than 50% (in some cases much more) in all markets from Rogue One, even in those developed markets traditionally favorable to Star Wars. If Japan follows the rest of the world, that would mean a gross less than $20 million.

It will be interesting to see how Solo does in Japan now that it's flopping everywhere. The market has been very loyal to the franchise.

Do you mean like my other Box Office History Charts? I certainly can. Just give me some time to work on those.

Solo will certainly drop. Rogue One grossed way less than every main Star Wars film in the market (including the OT!), and Solo pretty much suffers from the same major problems (no stars, and a prequel). I don't think Solo will drop 50% versus Rogue One, though, and still expect it to at least reach ¥3 billion (~$30 million). That's still pretty awful for a Star Wars release, but I don' think it'll completely tank.
