Yeah, I edited that they've been down somewhere around 60-70 hours now since pre-sales first went live on 10/13. Their waiting line system to buy a ticket today has exceeded 50,000 people a few times, and I've seen it as low as 17,000 in line. So I'm going to presume their servers can't handle any more than that trying to access their ticket purchasing system at a time. I don't know a lot about servers or server strain, but not being able to handle these numbers seems... poor.

Well, it depends on what workload they are normally used to sustain, but...when you are the only chain to experience these many issues, that's hardly an excuse tbh.

Looking at the numbers now, I *think* Aeon was fixed at some point, but that still wouldn't account for any missong sales for the first 6+ hours earlier in the day.

The Friday is above both Tuesday and Thursday even without the missing sales, so I think that's encouraging. I'll have more to share in a bit.

Correct, but the missing admissions have been released. They will be added at the end of day.

The programmer is estimating based on the sell-rate of other chains, and Aeon's average sell-rate for these time periods, that 39,693 admissions are missing from the aggregated total, currently just above 305,000, so it's more like 344,000.

Here's the breakdown at Aeon Cinemas of those missing admissions according to the programmer:

Open-15:05 (3:05PM): 872 missing showtimes for 23,473 admissions
15:05 (03:05PM) - 19:25 (7:25PM): 59 missing showtimes for 3,058 admissions.
19:25 (7:25PM) - 21:55 (9:55PM): 182 missing showtimes for 13,162 admissions

So it will be down less than 50% on Friday vs last week. That seems to be a good result.

And I just want to note that when the missing Aeon admissions are added, its Friday-to-Friday drop is only going to be 49%. That might seem "high", but it's pretty great, especially when you consider this is versus the biggest Friday ever by a near 3:1 margin last week.

And for reference, Frozen II's first Fri-to-Fri drop was down 47%, and Weathering With You was down 48% on its second Friday. Frozen II had a boost on its second weekend since that Sunday fell on the 1st of the month, and dropped 1% in its second weekend (probably would have been sub-20% normally). And Weathering With You only dropped 16% in its second weekend.

So Demon Slayer being down 49% coming off a massive Friday like last week is remarkable, really. And, as is the case with this film, its second Friday is the second biggest Friday ever on record, behind its own opening day last week.

It's unbelievably good. Check my above post about Frozen II and Weathering With You.

Even Your Name. was down 38% on its first Fri.-to-Fri., and went on to increase over 25% on its second weekend.

So this Friday-to-Friday result for Demon Slayer is indeed pretty crazy. There's not really room to allow for an increase for Demon Slayer, don't think I'm saying that by any means, but a strong second weekend is very likely.

Over ¥2.5 billion (~$25 million) is looking pretty good. Its second weekend is very likely to be the second biggest weekend ever, not just second weekend, but biggest weekend ever, just behind its own opening weekend. :funny:

Many theaters are well over 50% booked for Saturday now, ~8 hours before shows begin, with some easily over 70/80% again like last Saturday.

So very roughly its heading for a 20%-25% drop second weekend. That would be amazing.

So Demon Slayer is also top Japanese Animation TV Ranking, October 12-18, how many chart it top simultaneously now? TV, Cinema, Manga, Music, only stage and videogame (which will be released next year) hasn't top yet.

Note that just topping the animation TV ratings (with a 4 or 5-hour rerun special), while very impressive, also resulted it in being the 4th most watched program last week across all programming.

A 15.4% rating is about 8.5 million viewers, and only three shows over all other programming (news, sports, drama, etc.) beat it last week https://www.videor.co.jp/tvrating/

And given this success, KTV (terrestrial TV station, think ABC, NBC, etc. in the U.S.) will be airing 2 episodes (reruns, but there's an all new audience for it in primetime TV) of the anime every Saturday in primetime (7-8pm) for the next 7 weeks.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Demon Slayer's second Friday of approx. ¥625 million is the highest Friday gross ever, only behind its own opening day last weekend.

Before Demon Slayer, only two films had achieved a Friday (their opening days) above ¥500 million, those two films being Star Wars IX (¥533 million) and Endgame (¥505 million). After them, the others on the list fall in the ¥400-500 million range (all opening days), including: Pirates 3 (¥467 million), Star Wars VIII (¥462 million), Harry Potter 8 (¥459 million), Weathering With You (¥458 million), One Piece Stampede (¥455 million), and Detective Conan 23 (¥422 million).

Biggest Friday's:

¥1.269 billion - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (Opening Day)
¥625 million - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2nd Friday) *est.*
¥533 million - Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Opening Day)
¥505 million - Avengers: Endgame (Opening Day)
¥467 million - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Opening Day)
¥462 million - Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Opening Day)
¥459 million - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (Opening Day)
¥458 million - Weathering With You (Opening Day)
¥455 million - One Piece Stampede (Opening Day)
¥422 million - Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (Opening Day)

Remember, prior to 2006 all Hollywood films opened on Saturday; and prior to 2018 all Japanese films opened on Saturday. The Force Awakens was given a Saturday release date as well so that it could contend with Yo-Kai Watch 2 (opening that same Saturday) back in 2015, otherwise it likely would have made the list (presumably with a similar opening day as the other two Star Wars given their similar overall debuts).

Friday's are also very much weekdays in the market, with Saturday's and Sunday's often being much larger.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Not for a direct comparison, but it's certainly comparable. It sold had a sell-rate of ~77% last Saturday, so it'll be going into this Saturday certainly at or above 50% once the first showings begin. Doesn't seem like a stretch to presume it'll get reasonably close to last Saturday again with walk-ups and any additional reservations throughout the day.

I don't want to say with certainty that it's going to drop 20% or better this weekend, but it's looking damn likely to do it, thus continuing its record obliterating ways. There wasn't a single record that it didn't break in its first full week of release (most by insane margins).

And if you would exclude that ENTIRE first week and pretend it didn't exist, and pretend that its second week right now is actually its first week, it's begun to break all those same records, again! It already did on its second Friday, as you can see above. It's re-breaking records.
