The movie's performance is a movie itself. Looking at these numbers on its 4th week. With every day just reaching over 100k admissions is mindblowing. Since tomorrow is a wednesday, it would act more like its monday showing, right? But anyway what a great performance for all these 4 weeks. Even if it goes below 100k this coming thursday, I'm sure it's still a lot more admissions than most other films' first week admissions.

~70% of locations (theaters), not admissions.

On weekends, they represent closer to 75% of the daily admissions. And on weekdays (due to closing earlier than on weekends), they represent closer to 67% of the daily admissions.

But do note that this isn't true for every film, just a general percentage for a wider release playing in every prefecture and attracting various demographics. Demon Slayer has been following it pretty well so far though, which is further indication of its universal appeal.

Family films, for example, typically have a higher rural share than the standard 25%/33%. And on the opposite side of that, films that appeal heavily toward adults (adult males in particular) have a higher urban share than the standard 67%/75%. And the wider a release is, the more likely it is to follow the standard 75% on weekends/67% on weekday. A more limited release has very few rural locations, so the usual locations can account for 80-90% of their theaters, meaning their admissions are almost exclusively sold there and can account for that much (or more) of their daily admissions.

Happy to see it doing such big numbers in Taiwan. Is $20 million there doable?

Also this may have been announced already, but here are various upcoming release dates:

Singapore: November 12th
Malaysia: December 10th
Indonesia: December 19th
Vietnam: January 1st
Philippines: February
Myanmar: February
Brunei: February 4th

Jack Sparrow: There was a note about its release there. The film is rated PG12 in Japan, which is roughly the equivalent of a PG13 rating in the U.S. (and most markets), but Japan is a bit more lenient with the ratings and sometimes a R-rated film in the U.S. can still be PG12 (or R15 at worst). The film is rated NC16 in Singapore, but a PG13 censored version is suppose to be the general release version theaters are getting there? Do you know about this?

And I advise NOT looking this up too much as it'd spoil the movie in more than one way, because a simple search from me brought up a different VERY spoilerific result that I already knew thankfully. Basically, I'm thinking it could be because of a "suicide" scene. Do such scenes warrant high ratings (NC16) in the market?

The orchestral concert will finally have its first showings this upcoming weekend, after being delayed earlier this year. Trailer featured above (pre-recorded moments).

And for those of us who are interested but can't attend, lol, they're offering a live-stream broadcast of the night performance on the 15th (and again on the 22nd I believe). Streaming site here: https://t.pia.jp/pia/event/event.do?eve ... d=b2056282

It'll cost you, of course, to live-stream it, but just wanted to share if anyone was interested.

The live-streaming costs ¥3,800 ($37) standard, or ¥5,800 ($56) with some giveaways. A lot cheaper than attending it at least.

I am French and I also saw that a Demon Slayer release had been announced in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and also in Switzerland it seems to me

For the moment no date announced, anyway we are in full containment in these countries and the cinemas are closed so it will surely be released in early 2021

Thank YOU, Corpse.

Anime in Indonesian cinemas are relatively niche. Record admission number still held by Stand By Me Doraemon (1 million in 18 days, final number unknown).

Last one to achieve success was One Piece: Stampede (150k admission opening, 400k+ final).

Is live-stream really available for people outside Japan? Last time I want to watch Free! orchestral concert livestream the website ask telephone number in Japan, Japanese home address, credit card issued in Japan, make it impossible for me to support KyoAni.

Hmm... good question. Once you select buy live-stream ticket and agree to the terms, you get to the login page where you need an account with PIA, OR you can sign-in using your Google or Twitter account. If anyone is interested in seeing it, I'd suggest checking before the day-of.

Looking ahead of even this week, assuming it more or less meets what I'm projecting, I'm thinking it will surpass both Your Name. and Frozen on Nov. 23rd (Nov. 22nd is possible, at least for Your Name., but let's not get too far ahead). And then it'll surpass Titanic on Nov. 28th/29th to become the #2 film all-time (after just 44/45-days...).

From there, the fun begins as only Spirited Away is left. Not going to project a date or week that it'll get there, but it should happen by the end of December.

Corpse, you estimate a weekend at $13.7M and therefore a drop of 20%, I think you overestimate the 5th weekend of Demon Slayer, I would rather have imagined a weekend around $11M and a drop of 35% maybe even more.

Why do you consider such an important weekend with a small drop like that ? Is it because of the presents they are giving this weekend or something?

Yep. The giveaway is likely to benefit the weekend. 1.5 million may seem like a lot to give out, but not with a film this size, so the fans are likely to rush out and get the them before its gone. They'll go quick. There will be four of these giveaways (Nov. 14th, Nov. 28th, Dec. 12th, and Dec. 26th), each date with a new limited piece.

And 20% isn't really that big, really. It only dropped 29% this past weekend coming off of an inflated discount third weekend and a weekday holiday (which was bigger than either Sat. or Sun.). It shouldn't drop more than 30% even without the giveaway.

Can someone confirm that it topped the worldwide box office for a second time this past week? The first being its opening weekend.

It will also be release in Spain in 2021.
SelectaVisión announced the acquisition of bothe the anime series and the movie.

Of course, due to the ongoing pandemic there is not an official release date yet, but should be "sooner than you think"

It should have. It's only rival is Chinese movie Sacrifice, and it had a weekend gross of $14.4 M.
Unless India is suddenly making big numbers...

I'm trying to look for other sources Corpse! Although this one is looking at the whole of its gross and not just it weekend.

The Toho/Aniplex anime adaptation has become the No. 5 highest grossing film ever in Japan, where Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away remains the top all-time pic with 30.8B yen. Demon Slayer is also the No. 5 biggest title at the international box office for 2020, as well as the No. 8 biggest worldwide for the year so far based solely on Japan (when factoring in Taiwan estimates, it bumps up to No. 7). Funimation releases domestically in early 2021.

Hey Corpse, would you happen to have the list of movies by the % of the population which went to see them? I believe Tokyo Olympiad is at the top of that list, and I'd like to know the number of admissions Demon Slayer would need to beat that very very old record.

edit : Would need around 25M admissions, if I'm not mistaken.
