Corpse,
Thanks for awesome updates. Its amazing to see this movie crush BO records in these troubled times when BO is almost dead globally. How high it can go? 25 million admissions? 40B yen? 350m usd?

This movie doesnt surprise me anymore.

by Box Office Mojo I found a couple more big mondays:
-The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe fourth monday (25th day) was 8,025,469 on january 2nd 2006 (new year's boost)
-Sing fourth monday (25th day) was 4,784,980 on january 16th 2017 (MLK Day).

YES!

Monday-Thursday anyway. Weekdays in Japan account for more of a film's total share than in most (any?) market, and since it opened so ridiculously high and has continued to hold so well, its weekdays (Monday-Thursday) going into its fourth week have now caught up to the weekdays of the biggest films in the U.S. excluding holidays (like the two you listed).

The only non-holiday fourth Mondays (25th day) in the U.S. that will be higher than Demon Slayer's today (tracking towards ~$3.5 million), will be Avatar and Black Panther, unless someone knows of something else.

Well, it's on track to surpass Spirited Away, possibly sooner than expected even. Maybe by the second or third week of December at this pace.

It's really unknown beyond that because it's not just going to crawl to the #1 all-time spot or anything; it's going to get there while still doing sizable figures it appears and BEFORE the New Year holiday period (which is 2 weeks this year). ¥35 billion ($335 million+) and 26 million admissions looks quite doable, but we'll need to wait and see.

4th weekend still higher than all but one OW (minus previews), and its current total would have been considered the very high end of where it could finish pre-release (I remember we were discussing even ¥10 billion, let alone ¥20 billion). Basically, these figures could have been its actual OW and final total and still be considered one of the most phenomenal runs ever.

Taiwan 2nd weekend NT$109mn, only 7% drop. Total NT$275mn or $9.62mn. Highest Grossing Japanese film in Taiwan. Huge second weekend, definitely among the Top 5 of all time. Should quite easily hit NT$500mn at this rate.

Japanese films in China to Taiwan ratio. For sake of consistency I will be using CNY vs NT$. That won't give the real idea of how big the gross in China was in real terms but help in escaping the exchange rate difference. Of course best way is to do admits comparison, but data ain't fully available.

In order of biggest grossers in China

Your Name - ¥575mn vs $244mn - 2.35x (20.9x in admits) in 2016
Doraemon Stand By Me - ¥530mn vs $50mn Approx - 10.6x in 2015

The above two are old, the recent ones...

Weathering With You - ¥289mn vs $165mn - 1.74x (13.6x in admits) in 2019
Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire - ¥232mn vs 109mn - 2.12x (16x in admits) in 2019
One Piece Stampede - ¥205mn vs $54mn - 3.78x (29x in admits) in 2019

For consideration,

Dragon Ball Super: Broly - ¥32mn vs $25mn - 1.28x (12.5x in admits) in 2019 (Here tickets in Taiwan seems very expensive, admits ratio is in range of Weathering with You.

Even using the smallest of the lot, i.e. 12.5x in admits, we may be looking at 20-25mn admits in China, i.e. atleast ¥650-800mn gross in China

Frozen2's first monday was only 104k at usual locations. DS is looking to end around 150k (unless we get some corrections later on today), so still a fair bit higher than Frozen2's first monday.

Wait what..... Frozen 2 first monday = 105k at usual locations? I thought it was 150k at usual locations lol

EDIT: just checked. F2 first monday = 104k at usual location, so DS 4th monday is around 45% higher than that.

Also, someone can check this if they want to, I'd appreciate it, but Demon Slayer is targeting a fourth Monday, 25th day in release, of about $3.5 million if the evening sales deliver later. NOT predicting this, it's early, but it's on track to do so right now.

I checked some films in the U.S., and only found TWO with a bigger fourth Monday (25th day), that being Avatar at $5.1 million and Black Panther with $4 million. Endgame and The Force Awakens were at $3.1/3.2 million, and I can't think of any other films that would have had bigger fourth Monday's unless it was a holiday?

Since Japan is such a leggy market, this film seems to have caught up with the biggest films in the U.S. on a daily basis now in its fourth week.

Holiday Monday is common, so you have a lot of bigger 4th Mondays on Memorial Day (especially many MCU films), Labor Day, near July 4, MLK day, or near New Year’s.

For non-holiday 4th Monday, I believe it is just the 2 you found, Jurassic World 4.15M, The Dark Knight 3.74M, and depending on exactly where DS lands Incredibles 2 with 3.543M

Yes, a but shy of $3 million today. But that's still huge, and much bigger than the first Monday's for the biggest films in the market.

And It's still comparable range to the fourth Monday's in the U.S. too. The others posted were summer releases, so their Monday's we're also boosted a bit.

Then in addition to Endgame and TFA we have Wonder Woman and Phantom Menace. But the latter two are, again, summer weekdays. Safe to say that we’ve entered a zone of dailies comparable to biggest in the US.

I google translate some Japanese tweets that suggest Ufotable might make the rest of the story in movies, not series, instantly making Demon Slayer the biggest cinematic franchise in Japan, and one of the biggest cinematic franchise in the world.

That'd be an interesting decision if it happens. It'd be like five or six more movies, or more.

Clearly a lot of money to be made, but there's also a lot to be gained with an anime series, like DVD/Blu-ray sales (they're released in volumes, so just a few episodes a disc versus a complete set), international streaming deals, and half a year exposure when it's airing. And now given the success, and that they're rebroadcasting season one in primetime, I'd expect any future seasons to be moved out of late-night (midnight) to an earlier time, perhaps continuing in primetime with high TV ratings. I don't know too much about if specific station(s) have rights to it, but they'd gain a ton negotiating a broadcast contract with the stations.

I imagine they'll have an announcement sometime early next year on the future of the series, perhaps even as early as Jump Festa 2020 in December.
