Indeed. Likely enough to crack the top 10 all-time (8th/9th perhaps). And above it includes 5 openers released between 2002-2006 that had previews added to their opening weekends.

And remember that it's already achieved not just the biggest opening weekend, second weekend, third weekend, and now fourth weekends ever, but that its first three weekends are the three biggest weekends ever.

Will the news on media (about the 20B yen milestone) give it a boost?

Probably, but receiving noticeable boosts at this level is tough to do. If anything, reaching the ¥20 billion mark and all the other milestones before it, has helped it over the course of its run, not just a few days or a week after achieving reach one.

If there's a noticeable boost to happen, it'll be when it leap-frogs over Your Name., Frozen, and Titanic in quick succession (as those three are sort of lumped together), especially Titanic. It'll go from being the current #5 film all-time to #2 all-time real quick. But, of course, when it surpasses Spirited Away either at the end of this month or sometime in early/mid-December to become #1 all-time, that's likely to provide it with a real boost afterwards.

When you say Demon Slayer should surpass Spirited Away at the end of this month or in early/mid December, Do you speak in term of dollars, yen or admissions ?

All three. Dollars will go down first since the exchange rate is more favorable now than in 2001, and then the other two will fall

I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Demon Slayer was #1 at the global box office this weekend. It was #1 worldwide over its opening weekend, being the first Japanese film to ever accomplish this feat, so this weekend would be its second time in topping the worldwide weekend box office.

I have no doubt that it will exceed the $257M of spirited away but as regards the ¥31.66 billion and especially the 24.28 million admissions, it will become complicated especially if it suffers from -35% drop every week.

And what are you waiting for next weekend? still a drop of 35% or maybe a little less?

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
I've said several times now that the average ticket price is only slightly higher (1.3% more) than Spirited Away's. If it beats it in gross, it also beats it in admissions. Japan has had little/no inflation for 27 years, therefore ticket prices are mostly still the same today as they were back in the 90s.

It only needs to match Frozen II's legs from here on to beat Spirited Away. And Frozen II had low weekdays from being a family skewing film opening too far out from a holiday period, whereas Demon Slayer appeals to a broad audience and is having much stronger weekdays. The weekends drops are likely to improve from here. It's mainly just down 34% (estimated) this weekend because last weekend was inflated from the discount day.

I still think perspective continues to be an issue here. Its fourth weekend is almost 2x higher than Spirited Away's and its four week total almost 2x higher... It took Spirited Away (the fastest film to get to every major milestone before Demon Slayer) over 9 weeks (6 being in the summer even) to get where Demon Slayer is after just 4 weeks. It's just a matter of time before it surpasses it now.

For example, it only needs to match Frozen II day by day beginning today (Monday) to beat Spirited Away now, and while early, its fourth Monday is looking to be nearly double (maybe more than double) Frozen II's first Monday. It's already 25% of the way there before 10am today...

Yeah I think a lot of people are only looking at weekends too project the total but forget that DS's weekdays are still humongous and are handily beating Frozen 2's weekdays maybe even a few weekends (like last Tuesday). Also with the schedule of giveaways the weekend drops should only get better with an increase expected the weekend where last manga is released. It's comparable to F2 now only on 4th weekend vs 1st/2nd weekend so that skews things a lot.

Corpse will it be possible to add Frozen 2's weekly comparison in the chart with the chart you have for Spirited Away? I would like a weekly comparison in this case if you can (don't if its possible because of weekday numbers not being reported, but hey if someone can get the data it would be you :) )

Ok thank you Corpse, I checked and Frozen 2 made $1,875M and 150k admissions on his first Monday, if Demon Slayer could do double that, it would be incredible but it would seem difficult.

For the next 2 days you have to expect a drop of 60% to 70% right?

According to the projection on usual locations page, it is heading to 280-290k today.

Today's drop and especially tomorrow's drop will be large because of last week's Tuesday holiday (which also boosted the Monday).

But they're still insanely high for the market during not just a fourth week, but any first and/or non-holiday week (and they're even on par with those right now, STILL). When we talk drops this big it sounds bad, but remember that its fourth Monday is still going to be bigger than the first Monday's of any of the biggest films in the past several years (even twice as high...).

Don't want to really predict at this point in time, but the fourth Monday today is looking at ¥350-375 million ($3.4-3.6 million) on ~275,000 alone. That's huge, really huge, and *could* lead to a Monday-Friday total around ¥1.4 billion ($13/14 million) on 1 million+ admissions. That's 85/90% of this past weekend's estimated take. It's not unusual for weekdays to be this strong, they're just not typically this strong for this time of year. And strong weekdays is always a sign of universal appeal that usually results in excellent legs.

Good grief. And I went HIGH in my estimates all week, too, and it still came in higher. Not as much as the last two weeks, but still higher. Bonkers, very bonkers.

I'll wait a bit to see if the daily breakdown is released so I won't have to repost all the charts again after just posting them.

Also, someone can check this if they want to, I'd appreciate it, but Demon Slayer is targeting a fourth Monday, 25th day in release, of about $3.5 million if the evening sales deliver later. NOT predicting this, it's early, but it's on track to do so right now.

I checked some films in the U.S., and only found TWO with a bigger fourth Monday (25th day), that being Avatar at $5.1 million and Black Panther with $4 million. Endgame and The Force Awakens were at $3.1/3.2 million, and I can't think of any other films that would have had bigger fourth Monday's unless it was a holiday?

Since Japan is such a leggy market, this film seems to have caught up with the biggest films in the U.S. on a daily basis now in its fourth week.
