Noice job Corpse and everyone else (too lazy to type everyone's name lmao)

It's a fun ride being on this Infinite Train of slaying records. Now it only has it's own record to beat every single day. When will it end? What's it's limit?
Now, the joy of KnY isn't guessing when it will surpass this film or that film. The joy right now is guessing what numbers will it made until the very end.

Here's hoping that Gintama The Final will also aboard this hype train and at least beat it's own record (Yorozuya yo Eien Nare record) and at best, beating OP Film Z and being the 2nd highest grossing ShounenJump film in Japan.

I went back and reviewed 2015 (last year that Christmas and New Year were on a Friday) to get some of idea of how everything will perform this upcoming week.

I've said many times that New Year Week (first week of January) will be stronger than Christmas Week (last week of December), but I don't think that'll be the case this time. It is in every other scenario, EXCEPT for when Christmas and New Year land on Fridays (like in 2015).

Instead, this Christmas Week is likely to be exceptionally stronger than normal, meaning the upcoming weekdays are going to be huge. Very huge. ymblcza reported that Monday reservations are ~75% of Sunday's, which is evidence that the week is going to be huge. Pretty much everything back in 2015 either doubled or tripled their weekend (Dec. 26-27) gross over the weekdays (Dec. 28-01/01). Demon Slayer is unlikely to do this since it's increasing over 100% this weekend (...), but it'll probably at least match this weekend's gross over the weekdays, and likely come in a bit higher. But everything else looks likely to double/triple this weekend's gross.

The first week of January in 2016 (01/04-08), except for that Monday, saw big drop-offs since the holidays had ended, but unlike 2016, 2021's New Year week has been extended until Jan. 11th to avoid travel congestion. So that week, two weeks away, will still be strong, definitely stronger than 2015 (or 2016, technically), but will still likely see everything dropping versus this upcoming week.

So the New Year weekend (next weekend) will see the drop too?

This is the 1st time since 19 years ago we have the bonus boost from new no.1 news/media report (if it really exist) so .... what do you expect?

No, there hasn't really been any (or much) inflation in the market since the early 1990s. Ticket prices are only 4-5% higher in 2020 than they were back in 1993. The last 27 years at the box office can be compared with almost no need to adjust for anything, especially 1993-2014. Japan is very stagnant.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. I think I missed welcoming you.

Understandably. Thanks.
I asked because it was interesting, but even so I understand that it would not add much to the this or that film would.
By the way, is there any data in how many cinemas Spirited Away was shown?

It is looking at 130k-140k at usual locations today (Sun). Finger grossed if the evening shows this week sun is stronger than last week sun.

Yeah, it'll drop next weekend. I mean, it's going to be up over 100% this weekend.

It'll likely get some sort of bump from the announcement. But we'll probably not notice since this upcoming week is going to be huge anyway.

It opened in 318 theaters, and the widest it went was 342 theaters. For comparison, Demon Slayer is in 413 theaters (a record for a domestic film, unsure about overall).

@Corpse what do you expect for tomorrow ? And when you speak about huge week, what could we expect ? (It would be nice if you redo your predictions for the week for the holidays as before)

He said the total gross of the next Monday to Thursday (28/12 to 31/01) might be equal to the total gross of this weekend.

Guys one day at a time is the best way to proceed in the market. Its impossible to predict daily numbers even with regular movies over holiday period so there is no way any projections will hold true. Just have patience and try to be amazed at daily numbers rather than trying to predict a week in advance. Predicting early at this point really serves no purpose or target anymore.

Nothing has been announced yet. Last official announcement didn't give any information about future anime or movies.

Is the manga/anime trending now more than it 20 years ago in Japan?
This is the unique culture of Japan for long time (and Japan market is already a developed one for long time also) so I think it has been much popular back then in the country, especially when the population of Japan back then was still high with high percentage young people in comparing to the old population now.

They need to keep pushing it during the spring holidays, during Golden Week and perhaps even during the summer in the hope that it eventually reaches 40 billion yen.
