Titanic with 22 weeks. Then Spirited Away and Frozen are tied for second with 16 weeks. Demon Slayer will be aiming for 14 weeks. It's not locked to get 14 weeks (a couple hurdles before then), but it should be able to fend off everything until Evangelion 3.0+1.0 on January 23rd.

Although... the one-week only re-release of Evangelion 1.0 this weekend isn't doing nearly as well as I was expecting. Unless it manages very strong business tonight, it's looking at a pretty disappointing opening. Maybe 3.0 really did leave a bad taste in the mouth of fans, which I always thought was exaggerated, but if 2.0 would disappoint next week too (the most popular entry by far), then maybe not. We'll see when the final film, which has been in the works and delayed for 8 years..., finally opens though.

I wonder if it can stay a little longer and reach the 16 weeks mark at #1 probably returning to #1 later in its run sometime.

We still don’t really know how well this will hold once it starts having reasonable sized weekends. Getting close with this weekend, but I won’t be surprised if the Jan/Feb weekends are still holding on pretty strong.

It seems several stores sold already their entire stock of volume 23 and the Gaiden volume yesterday morning. One bookstore employee said that they have haver never seen anything like this in their 20 years of working in a bookstore.

And then there is this article that says a bookstore managed to sell over 200 copies in under two hours after opening from their 1000+ stock.

Well many girls like shounen especially naruto and demon slayer I think that shounen like dbz don't have that many fan girls but some others do.

So about 45% drop from last Saturday. Still within the range of prediction. Let's hope Sunday is bigger than this and it reaches 0.7b for the weekend (though it looks really difficult at this point)

@Corpse, can you detail the percentages of fall or increase each week that we could see from the fourth week of December until the end of the holidays to realize what effect the holidays will have on the box Demon Slayer office ?

Not with any accuracy. Besides just two single-day weekday holidays, the film hasn't had any sort of holiday benefit that every other uber-blockbuster before it has had within a month of their opening day.

It's played very, very well on its two solo holidays, so we can probably expect a significant boon during the upcoming holidays. But it'll also be entering its 11th week in release by that point, which can't be compared to any prior films because, as mentioned, pretty much every other big film entered a holiday period as soon as they opened or within a month of opening, not 2.5 months later.

New Year Week (01/01-07) > Christmas Week (12/25-12/31) > Extended New Year Week (01/08-14). Every film performs differently over the holidays; some can see increases in the hundreds or thousands percent, while some can only see increases in the teens.

Demon Slayer fits pretty firmly in the middle of all the demographics, I feel, since it's attracting multi-generations, therefore it shouldn't see any of the extreme percentage changes during the holidays, but rather more stable ones. Let's say it could see increases up to 50% or so during Christmas Week versus the previous week, New Year Week might see increases from 50-100% or something over Christmas Week, while the Extended New Year Week (the holiday on the 11th excluded) will probably come back down to, or slightly below, the Christmas Week numbers.

It could still reach there if the actuals come in a bit higher than the estimations (has happened almost every weekend so far), but I think it'll come in a little lower still.

What do you think about Grand Order's opening day, Corpse? I thought it was a bit disappointing personally.

Yeah, Grand Order came in lower than I was expecting. It probably beat Doraemon on Saturday despite losing in admissions due to its expected very high average ticket price, but Doraemon will crush it on Sunday, so it'll have to settle for a third place debut this weekend with around ¥200 million (~$2 million).

I don't know too much about the Fate series. I've watched Zero, but beyond that, my knowledge is pretty limited. It could just be that the Stay Night series is more popular than Grand Order?

Just finished the special fan screening, now can understand why this movie is social phenomenom in Japan (I'm not talking about the visual or sound factors, they are very great already of course).

Spoiler: show
during the movie, there are many moments and messages relating to family, sibling, and especially senpai and kohai stuff. And Japanese people very love these values in life.
Not to mention very touching moment near the end relating to those stuff I just mentioned.

Grand order is the cashcow of the fate franchise afaik, but i guess the main series handled by ufotable is more popular on the anime front. I expected it to come around HF1's opening day, but it fell short by a good margin.

Looking around I saw pretty poor reviews overall (2.6 on yahoo), don't think it'll have much to show on the legs department.

Yes, enjoyed it much. My only complaint is that Lisa edit song Homura is not subbed in my languague (maybe because the time is too short for the editor). Of course I already known the meanings because I watched the sub version on youtube before. But for other people, that song lyric is nice and works well with the final touching moment. So it is better if there is sub for people to understand.

It's probably just something to do on the anime-front then.

It was going to have very poor legs regardless of poor reviews since the films in the overall Fate franchise have been very frontloaded for the market, but the reviews will probably just make it certain now.

However, I'm going to assume it'll get a 4D expansion at some point in its run to boost it a bit. I believe all of the Fate films have, and most if not all of Anipliex's release receive the 4D expansion as well. This also means that Demon Slayer is likely to get a 4D expansion at some point, too.

And it does not seem that people need to finish the first season to watch the movie. Because there are some people reviewd that they are just casual movie goers but they still could get the basic idea about what was going on in the movie and they very enjoyed the movie.

I'd say that Grand Order is more popular since it's most people's gateway to Fate franchise (due to the gacha game, although older fans like me have the VN and/or the Deen's adaptation as their introduction).
I'd say that there are two factors that maybe affected it's run.
First, it's not animated by Ufotable. Second, I've heard that it cut two important scenes (or two characters? idk) from the original gacha and replaced it with a useless scene which made a lot of people turn off from this.

many edits later: idk how to type/reply. sorry

Yeah, Camelot is supposed to be watched first before Babylonia, but it's okay either way tbh.
Even the anime skipped all 5 singularities (even London and E Pluribus Unum which are great singularities), so there's really not a real order to watch here like the main series (You can watch zero first, or the 3 routes either way or be a chad like me and start with the VN)

Since Grand Order isn't animated by ufotable, then I'd say that's definitely the leading reason it failed to match the success of the Stay Night films.
