Great for Robots. Not so good for Hostage. Pretty good for The Passion Recut.

From an original estimate of 500-750 to over 900, that is excellent for The Passion Recut. It could very easily do over $5 million this weekend.

Not surprised about Hostage, this is Miramax we're talking about, they never go with a huge amount of theaters. And wow for The Passion, it must just be in some places, because it's not playing anywhere near me.

I actually don't see why The Passion Recut will have that high of a PTA. When LOTR: FOTR and TTT were re-released ahead of ROTK, neither got a PTA higher than $6000, and The Passion Recut is being released in a lot of more theaters, which should drift its PTA even lower. Similar to when TTT was re-released in the December of 2003, it is a year after the film's original release, and it is a film that grossed over $300M in theater as well as a bunch in DVD sales, and TTT at least had the demand from people who wanted to refresh their memory before watching ROTK. I just don't find enough evidence to suggest The Passion Recut will have a high PTA. Considering it only occupies basically 1 screen per theater, I'm going to go quite conservative on it.

The only re-issue that I can remember which made significant amount of money and splash was Star-War in 1997. Even E.T. was somewhat of a disappointment when it was re-released.

Remember though, most people under-predicted the original release of the film. It would not surprise me if it increased in its second or third weekend as churches organize groups to go.

If it hits 1000 theaters, which is quite possible, I could see it making $3500-$5000 per theater opening weekend. I've not seen that much advertising yet, but that isn't saying much as I watch very little TV.

My $42,000,000 prediction for ROBOTS seems VERY reachable...only an $11,000 pta is needed for that.

Awesome.

If ROBOTOS gets the same PTA as SHARKTALE, it's got $45M in the bank. :)

I heard a interview with Bruce Willis this morning where he said he would call back if his movie took #1.

I wanted to call in and laugh at him saying he had a better chance of making the movie that beats titantics domestic gross than to be #1 for the weekend.

As for Robots, around 3800 which is what I thought it would get. Movie should do a killing. 50+ million seems certain at this point.

Miramax seems like to dump HOSTAGE...... Bruce is doing many PR jobs, though.

Hostage around ... 15? Meh I will have to look at that one alot closer before predicting. Robots though I am gonna go with my gut.

Upside of Anger...small count, but I think they are going with the snow ball effect. This movie is getting good reviews, I think they postponed it from Dec., because it would have gotten lost in the award film shuffle.

Thats very low for hostage,i thought it would get 3000+ easy,im gonna change my prediction.
Robots has a great TC as expected,it should easaly pass 50mill,maybe even get to 60.
TPOTC got a bigger TC than i expected,i think it may do about 1.5-2.5 mill.

most of the big churches I know around me have a digital projection system in thier gym or whatever and plan on showing the passion on dvd around easter for all the members to come watch.... why go to a theatre and have to pay when you can do it in the church etc etc

The Churches will still have to pay for licensing fees so either way Mel Gibson will be getting more money off of it.

There has been advertising at my local theater and from what I understand also some TV ads. Churches will likely turn out for this again, but in how large of numbers is unsure of yet.
