Thursday #'s

Mean Girls $3,250,000
The Beekeeper $2,400,000
Anyone But You $965,000 / $48.24M -51.8%
Wonka $675,000 / $167.81M -75.0%
Aquaman 2 $550,000 / $102.97M -71.1%
Color Purple $320,000 / $55.96M -61.0%
The Book of Clarence $285,000

What a flop for Book of Clarence! $40M budget let's see if it recahes $10M.

Promising for The Beekeeper. $15M+ 4day looks good.

@Keyser will probably have more insight on that one. I'm going to assume yes.

Hm... I just noticed Josh Hutcherson is in the Beekeeper. Think that may be a factor its doing above average for a Statham movie since he kinda gained back popularity recently.

Mean Girls $11,650,000
The Beekeeper $6,765,000
Anyone But You $2,100,000 -35% $50,339,370
Wonka $1,800,000 -58% $169,613,855
Night Swim $1,160,000 -78% $15,670,415
Aquaman 2 $1,150,000 -63% $104,113,347
Migration $1,140,000 -62% $80,705,635
The Book of Clarence $1,000,000
The Boys in the Boat $974,000 -45% $36,805,103
The Iron Claw -48% $27,468,152
Poor Things $457,000 -22% $15,980,307
The Color Purple $400,000 -70% $56,349,846
Soul $125,000

Looking at the PTA's though gives a better idea of how movies are doing. Color Purple's PTA held well but it lost so many theaters so tells me its a fraction of the theaters driving most of the business.

Poor Things +1.03%
The Holdovers +1.01%
The Zone of Interest -10.29%
The Color Purple -17.68%
The Iron Claw -21.38%
The Boys in the Boat -26.40%
Anyone But You -32.64%

Interesting part will be how Mean Girls and Beekeeper hold with dead January weekends. And Anyone But You will probably just keep knocking out 7-8 mil weekends.

Feeling like The Beekeeper could be around for a bit as it's getting fairly good reception by critics and audiences. It's built up a lot of buzz so far. :P

Poor Things looking to do around 20m in widest 800 theaters is pretty impressive. Not expanding till Oscar noms is smart.

Oof at Soul. Idk why I went so high on those for my predictions lol.

It’s annoying that even movies like Imaginary and Arthur the King have to be in March instead of late Jan or Feb. A Mark Wahlberg dog movie seems perfect for the Boys in the Boat/Beekeeper/etc. 50-70 million movie revival.

Wonka's journey to $208M is such a rollercoaster!

Good for the two openers though. Terrible for Soul. And Clarence too. That demo showed up huge on Christmas and has since disappeared.

I knew nobody was going to care about these Pixar movies that were on Disney+. But thought Soul might do 1 Million with it being MLK weekend.

Yeah Five Nights at Freddy's has revived Josh's career. Crazy that he just had a bigger movie than any JLaw has had in a long time. I feel like JLaw may start to push for another Hunger Games sequel to help her comeback. There are blinds saying she was desperately networking with everyone she could at the Golden Globes trying to secure a good new role. Makes sense to me, that movie she was in in the summer seemed really beneath her a few years ago.

Having finally watched the Hunger Games series for the first-time last week - she clearly is a star and should be in better films than she has of late. Given Songbirds did so well, I wouldn't be surprised with a J-Law THG film being announced (even though they closed it off happily ever after).

I would like a film full of comeback roles for former "stars" who never quite lived up the early career media hype, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hartnett.

Jennifer Lawrence was WAY more successful than Josh Hartnett ever was.

Your obsession with him is weird.

She’s the youngest person to have four academy award noms has one and a bafta, and 3 globes. Mother doesn’t even make a million without her, red sparrow was a pretty good size hit for that genre, don’t look up broke the Netflix record when it came out ( think it is still #2 of all time) and she started in an R rated comedy this year that did 50 million and her performance was well recieved. And her other starring films made like 6.5 billion. Even passengers did over 300 million on a 110 budget. She also got married and had an extremely invasive personal invasion attack that also gave her so much media attention she wanted to step back a bit.

Josh Garnett (misspelling intended) was the 2nd lead in a heavily hyped Ben affleck Michael bay WWII film, a sex comedy, was poorly received in both, and flopped in almost everything else for the next 20 years. That’s like comparing Mark Sanchez to Tom Brady. Ps, if we are comparing Lawrence to Brady we’re only up to the season that he broke his leg right now.

Very good for Mean Girls in the end. $33M 4day and that was for a complete remake of the original as a musical with none of the 4 original leads. If they had brought the original cast together almost certainly feels like that could have done $80M+ OW and become a big pop culture event.

Yeah this just makes me think if they had done Mean Girls 2 with the original 4 girls it would've been HUGE

Curious to see how Mean Girls holds. Its holds through the weekend seem fine but I feel like it'll sink.

I'm sure some Paramount execs are sitting around discussing how they'll somehow do Mean Girls 2 (3) but bring in the original cast somehow.

Yeah, 'Mean Moms' (with good reviews) is a potential blockbuster waiting to happen
