Good release date in that it's sooner than expected.

They couldnt pass up on that date. Good choice. I think thats the same date as Witch Mountain. March is looking very strog indeed.

That is kinda odd though how we have 2 Friday the 13th in back to back months,

Good release date (and much sooner than I expected). It could have a solid Hills Have Eyes kinda run.

February and March always have the same dates (as in, if February 4 is a Friday, March 4 will be a Friday) unless it's a leap year.

Roland Emmerich's latest "the world ends" extravaganza 2012 has been bumped from July 10 to November 13, leaving I Love You Beth Cooper as the only wide release on July 10 at the moment.

Thats a huge blow to summer 2009 and 2009 in general. Huge blow for the film as it wont do well in November. Terrible news all round. I wonder what the rationale is. What a mess!

Good news for Transformers and Public Enemies though. $400m+ and $200m+ for these films are looking better and better.

That's such an absurd move for 2012. It would have been huge (!) in July.

But now it's opening the same weekend as Sherlock Holmes. The fuck?

I guess they don't think they can finish it in time.

I would just use the same effects from The Day After Tomorrow. No one will notice.

Sony said they "could have finished it" for the summer, but it'll give them time to fine-tune it and that they have so many films in the summer and want to replicate the success of Bond and put a tentpole in November.

HUGE MOVE!!!!!

Summer 2009 just looks even weaker now. Losing a 150m+ film just like that. Though November now looks stronger, though 2012 just seems more like a film people would want to see in the summer but not care for much in November. Though they're probably looking at WW picture here, and the film probably has better OS potential in November with the less competition than in summer. So I think its actually a smart move for the movie overall, but a bad move for its domestic potential. I think it would be lucky to hit 150m in November.

Public Enemies chances of being huge just got bigger. It can get some really good legs.

Summer 2009 has just been so unforutante. First it loses Prince of Persia, then Fast and Furious, now 2012.

Dont forget A-Team as well.

I think November is a huge mistake for this. I wouldnt be surprised it it made sub $125m in November.

It wont make as much as Bond now.

I would move Fast & Furious to July 10 now. Then again, it's not up to me.

I agree with Magnus, it will be HUGE overseas in November with NOTHING in its way.
In case everyone has forgotten, for the most part only EPIC movies do well OS consistently.
These include sequels to well-liked films, disaster films and fantasy films.
However as everyone seems so concerned about domestic numbers it will be pretty bad for this movie since the spotlight is always on domestic releases grosses.

Bruno will open over $50m. Ive always said it will be a hit even in May but now its going to explode. Atleast on OW.

Fantastic for Bruno. I think its potential went up a lot. In fact, I think 100m is now a lock for it.

Yeah that weekend was going to suck with just Beth Cooper opening.

I'll say it again: The movie is overall good for the film probably.

Domestically, its a bad move for sure. But overseas, its a great move IMO. Look at the OS it had to face: Transformers, Ice Age, and HP6. Transformers is going to do 400m+ OS, Ice Age is going to do 450m+, and HP6 is going to do 650m+. That is insane competition OS.

On the other hand, in November, none of the big films really seem like they'll do that big OS. 2012 has the OS market all to itself in November.

I think you are setting huge expectations for OS performance. Dollar is extremely strong against all currencies except yen. Also Obama is a strong proponent of strong dollar and so dollar will be even stronger as we approach the summer.

I expect HP6 to gross < HP3 in OS markets. IA2 will certainly fall below IA while TF2 will also struggle to match TF. TF sold over 7M tickets in SK and will struggle to match that number.

I would say 525M for HP2, 400M for IA3 and 360M for TF2.

Potter will do at least 600. I say 625 right now. The dollar isn't that much higher than the Euro. It is at the same level as when GOF came out actually. You are also not counting inflation. If you add that in POA made well over 600.

You are looking at today's dollar value. It will appreciate even more. I remember some economist in UK predicting Pound/Dollar exchange rate to be around 1.2. That is way higher than even POA levels.

Plus potter has been dropping in japan with every release. I doubt HP6 will match ticket sales of OOTP or GOF 2 years after last book release.
