Re: Release Date Change Thread
Deadpool (and cult item Legion on television) excepted, the X-Men franchise is in a strange place. After Logan so elegantly ended the Wolverine saga, as well as the highly publicized news the mutants will be absorbed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the relatively near future, the McAvoy-Fassbender-Lawrence-Hoult vein of films feels lost in space. A bit akin to Wily E. Coyote before he glances down and realizes he ran past the cliff's edge.
They are doing the Dark Phoenix arc now, and I am absolutely rooting for it to be triumphant and the worthy adaptation the story deserves, but I feel there is almost zero public investment in Sophie Turner's Jean Grey.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I honestly saw this as the last of those films since I can't see any of the main actors doing more after this one. No way they resign Lawrence, and Fassbender even if does Days of Future Past numbers. I just hope it ends those films in a good way. I am not even sure what Marvel will do with X-men yet.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
They should move Alita (which will probably flop anywhere they put it) or Aquaman in Dark Phoenix's spot.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I do wonder when one of those December 21st releases will move. I know there is no Christmastime Star Wars for the first time in a few years, but are their respective studios seriously going to release Alita: Battle Angel, Aquaman, and Bumblebee on the same day (with another big-budget-hard-sell film, Mortal Engines, only a few days before)? I am not sure which even has more this-is-OUR-date clout between Aquaman and Bumblebee. Neither is representing a particularly healthy franchise.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
The guy who initially broke the news that The New Mutants is terrible and would be delayed/reshot (all of which ended up being accurate) says that they're adding the Laura/X-23 character from Logan to the film.
That seems like a smart move, although I've got to imagine that's going to be incredibly difficult/expensive to do.

Well put I don't think Sophie Turner's turn is hot in any way, plus the biggest sell Fassbender and Lawrence have their starpower slightly down compared to Days of Future Past and that's not helping the movie. McAvoy in my eyes have increased his popularity after the wonderful Split.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
The Alita: Battle Angel trailer before my showing of Ready Player One said "NEXT SUMMER" and listed a June or July release. Not sure if this is an old trailer or a brand-new one... Was it ever meant as a summer release?

I think 9 could drop below 200m domestic, but they're going to market the living hell out of 10 as the finale so that should do very well.
The biggest problem the franchise has at the moment is a warring cast. It's going to be difficult to get half these guys in the same room again, then you've got Michelle Rodriguez who has publicly claimed she won't come back if she doesn't like how her character is written. Alas, it looks like David Leitch (Deadpool 2, John Wick, Atomic Blonde) will direct the Untitled Hobbs spinoff. Not a bad choice at all...but come on, no one is Shane Black. Too bad it didn’t work out. Also, Variety confirms Justin Lin on FF9. And Leitch is confirmed as Director via the F&F social media pages.

Animal Crackers will be released on 10th August 2018. It was in limbo for a long time, so I'm pleased they've finally found a distributor and that the release date is soon, and really a pretty good date too!

Charlie Hunnam ain't no Steve McQueen. Why oh why do they remake classics? I don't mind if they go in a different direction, but it looks identical to the 1973 original, just replacing the actors and using modern, crisp cameras that avert any sense of verisimilitude.

Sherlock Holmes 3 - December 25, 2020 (New)
This leads me to believe Iron Man will die for good in the next Avengers film. Robert Downey Jr. likes money and attention, and he must be planting the seeds for continued $$$ with the Doctor Doolittle remake being positioned as a new tentpole franchise, and now more Sherlock Holmes.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Mark Wahlberg’s The Six Billion Dollar Man has been pushed back a year from 31st May, 2019 to 5th June 2020. Godzilla 2 will now fill its old 2019 slot, which is not to be confused with Godzilla vs. Kong which comes out about 2 weeks before The Six Billion Dollar Man on 22nd May 2020. Can the world take Godzilla films coming out one year after the other? I loved the 2014 Godzilla, but don't care for its sequel. However, King Kong fighting Godzilla just sounds all types of fucking awesome. I'll be waiting for that.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I'm interested in Godzilla 2 more than Kong Vs Godzilla specially because I believe they will make it BvS type of movie in the end where they finally fight a common enemy.

Not a fan of the 2014 Godzilla but wouldn't mind Godzilla Vs Kong. Wont bother with Godzilla 2 unless review/WOM are great.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
This is Craig's last Bond film so it may increase a little. Opening on Wonder Woman's 2nd weekend will dampen the OW though.

The longer gap might not help plus the last one was coming off the high of Skyfall.

Yeah, aren't people over Craig as Bond? I don't think anyone cares that it will be his final appearance as Bond.
