Isn't it a case where families could go to the multiplex and the dads and sons will see Thor and the mums and daughters will see Bad Moms? Getting a head start is good, sure, but it's a fucking Christmas movie. It should be released in December (or closer to it) not two months before the holidays.

Re: Release Date Change Thread I'd have said it should have been released over Thanksgiving. But at least it will have time to enjoy decent legs leading up to Christmas.
Technically they target different audiences but superhero/Marvel movies really appeal to a wide range of people so there will be some audience overlap.

Yeah, I expected to see significant drops with FF 9 and 10, but hopefully we're also done then. I'd say I enjoy the whole series from 1-8 so far, but after the last one I expect little from the next installment, well just managing expectations I guess, but thinking there's going to be two more that would really be the max. And any spin-off just sounds so unnecessary as well, I think that would bomb actually, unless they come up with something really new and creative.

Re: Release Date Change Thread Shane Black is up to direct the spinoff and Justin Lin is likely directing F&F 9 so (at least creatively) they seem to be lining up their best talent to finish things up.
I think 9 could drop below 200m domestic, but they're going to market the living hell out of 10 as the finale so that should do very well.
The biggest problem the franchise has at the moment is a warring cast. It's going to be difficult to get half these guys in the same room again, then you've got Michelle Rodriguez who has publicly claimed she won't come back if she doesn't like how her character is written.

Re: Release Date Change Thread Why any credible director wants to work on this franchise is beyond me. Shane Black will hopefully get some kudos from The Predator. He could have his choice of films.

Re: Release Date Change Thread Black does not strike me as chasing the mullah. He could have done that in the last 30 years but has largely settled for staying in the shadows. It just makes no sense that he would want to direct a Fast and Furious spin-off. He will be allowed no creative control whatsoever. All those movies have to be alike ... or as Mark decides.

Re: Release Date Change Thread Scoring another big international hit is necessary if he wants to continue to make things like The Nice Guys, etc. Iron Man 3 was already a long time ago in blockbuster terms. While I'm genuinely excited to see what a Shane Black F&F movie would look like, I'm even more excited at what it's success could mean for Black's passion projects.
And maybe he just really wants to work with Johnson/Statham? There's clearly a lot of chemistry there and he could make a buddy movie like that in his sleep.

Re: Release Date Change Thread Tyrese is not happy about the delay. And he has a good point. This spin off will be viewed as fast 9, leaving the rest of the team out and softening the anticipation of the real Faat 9. Why not just have Rock and Statham hunt down Theron as the subplot? Rock was doing his own movie for most of Furious 7 and it worked out pretty well for everyone.
