HUGE for Hitch, not half bad for Ong-Bak. But I can't find Portland showtimes, PLEASE let it be playing in P-Town... Either way, don't be surprised if this one sneaks in with a 10K PTA

I have good feeling about Ong-Bak as well. It may not be able to do $10K PTA given the screen count per theater, but it will do well. Given Will Smith's track record, a near identical theater count, and such a strong marketing campaign, I don't see why Hitch won't do 50 First Dates number.

Awesome! Hitch's number is huge. If this doesn't make atleast $35 million, I'll be shocked.

I'm thinking closer to $50 million actually.

Yeah, I'll be seeing Hitch and Hide and Seek this weekend. I don't really want to see either, but hopefully they'll be alright. Nice numbers for Hitch but I'm thinking it will be overrated like last year's 50 First Dates.

I didn't find 50 First Dates over-rated at all, personally. It is one of my favorite rom-coms of all time.

Yeah, I really liked 50 First Dates. It was both sweet and funny, which is all you can really ask for in a Valentine's romcom.

The Aviator starts to lose theaters.

What the hell?

Why is Aviator loosing theatres?

It has been doing really great for the past weeks and if they boosted a bit its theatre count it could easily reach 90 million before the Oscars. It's the most nominated movie afterall. It doesn't make sense to start loosing theatres right now does it?

Poor Tara Reid

But can anyone explain why is The Aviator loosing theatres? I thought it has been performing rather well for the past weeks, holding steady and stuff. And Oscars are in 2 weeks... shouldn't they wait before start dropping?

I think it has to do with its PTA dropping to $2,145 last weekend. That's the lowest out of the three main contenders. Even with its long length and only about 3-4 showings per day, that still only translates to 30 people per show, and with Hitch taking over a lot of screens, it bounds to lose the only screen it currently has in some of the theaters.

Sideways is also losing theaters, and while Million Dollar Baby did increase, it was shown on 2 screens in a lot of theaters, and I bet some will take one screen away from MDB as well.

So how much do you think it will drop this weekend since it is loosing over 300 theatres?

Its PTA should hold steady, and I don't think it will affect that much. a 30% drop to $3.8M.

The Polar Express probably hit second run theatres. This should give its weekend gross a good bump. I still hope for it to somehow magically cross $165 million ;)

Sideways and The Aviator have both started losing theatres which is pretty unfortunate, especially for Sideways which I hoped for to hit 2,000 theatres before the end of its run.

Hitch has grabbed an amazing amount of theatres, however I expected it to happen (considering 50 First Dates got even some more). We're looking at a certain $38+ million opener.

I dont know why anyone should be surprised with Hitch's theater count, theres very little serious competish for theaters, futhermore Will Smith is a massive star, its a valentines day romantic comedy

And most importantly, its a SONY COLUMBIA romantic comedy. These people KNOW how to market a film and pull theaters like theres no tomorrow.

Everyone should be surprised about Hitch's TC. Even though it's mediocre (not great) for Hitch's BO potential, there's no reason for these overhyped people to oversupply rom-com flicks in nearly 3600 theaters. Why should they? I mean, The stadium theater has 4 SCREENS!! I believe it'll be between 13 Going on 30 and 50 First Dates

Wait, what?! I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say. Hitch will perform mediocre because it's overhyped and in 3600 theatres? What...?

Heh.

Now now, let's not be rude. He's clearly trying to say it'll do badly because he doesn't like it. ;)
