Yes excellent budgets for both. They will definitely be very profitable for the studios.

So we got ourselves a new most expensive film ever by nominal value (wiki told me POTC: OST cost 412 adjusted)

Did they shot the two movies together? The movie does look expensive but $400m is a tad too much. Though imagine Disney started getting back some by the first weekend itself.

It's the cast salaries I imagine. Pratt, Downey Jr, Evans and Hemsworth alone must be over $100m.

But weren't most of those signed on for actually quite low salaries right back in the beginning? I think Evans was. Not sure about the rest. I know Downey wasn't, obviously. Not saying it's not the salaries - the sheer volume of people means that it must be huge - but I think it might not be as huge as their present day celebrity status might indicate.

V:

more than $250m: SOLO

Sounds absolutely bogus to me... With 70 % reshoots it should be closer to $350m...

I can't imagine Lord/Miller spent a ton of money. And Howard doesn't seem like a director that would go hugely over budget.

Over $250 mil already sounds like a ton. I highly doubt it cost $350 mil.

I feel that Disney would have had Solo's initial budget lower than RO's $200m for about $150m-$175m. The salaries would surely be lower and that would have contributed to its low budget but then again RO didn't have (m)any high salaried cast either and has reshoots while still managing $200m budget.

In retrospect Solo's budget it higher than TFA ($245m), TLJ ($225m) and RO ($200m) but given the amount of reshoots it should have gone close to $300m if not more.

After seeing it I can understand why the budget was low on this one. The finale is in a room and there is no big bang like rogue one this time. I think SW fans "might" come out disappointed because of that factor.

Pretty low, I’d say the cast probably cost $50m+ on their own. Sandy must be getting a big percantage of the gross.

I think O8 should be relatively huge overseas. Worldwide gross of +300m makes sense, clever budget.

Well, the cast is female. You don't need to pay them as much.

And half of them probably got the part just by bedding Harvey Weinstein.

Why on Earth would they INCREASE the budget? Surely they knew its gross would fall.

I think generally costs just go up (but not much surely in this short time), but mainly I think they probably couldn't sell a sequel that doesn't look bigger (and better)...they probably thought they had to do it, to get the most out of it, make its decrease as small as possible.
