Agree, I don't think it would have to cost that much, however, it definitely does have very high production values, I'm pretty sure they did location shoots in London and its got a very solid cast. So in any case, I'd call the budget well spent.

Doesn't seem high for The Foreigner to me. It's already grossed $70m in China. It will finish north of $150m worldwide.

Financially a success for sure then.
Has a Chan film ever lost money?

I can understand why The Foreigner costs $35m, doesn't seem very high more like standard actioner budget.
Brilliant for Happy Death Day.
No idea what is Marshall.

At least Jigsaw will be profitable this weekend. Series is well past its prime.

Yes brilliant for Jigsaw but I still feel it won't do HDD's numbers and the later will turn out a bigger profit.

Decent for Suburbicon as well, it should do enough in States that with OS release it should break even or even be profitable.

Yeah. Both of those budgets are fine. I feel that $10m of that $25m probably went to Damon anyway. The film itself actually looks like it could be made for $5m. I bet Clooney took home a few mil.

Could have been for sure, but on the other hand he might not have gotten much if he considered it a I'm doing this for the art role with my buddy.

Suburbicon is hardly the highest of highs in terms of "art". And Clooney being the director is also why I said $10m. Damon got paid $25m for The Martian.

Agreed that Suburbicon looks like those micro-budgeted movies with some named actors who would have taken paycheck cuts otherwise.

Great for BM2.
Standard budget for MCU and just a slight budget increase from Thor2's $170m, it should be profitable with OS numbers.

Murder on the Orient Express: 55m
Daddy's Home 2: 69m

Quite high for a comedy, but apparently the first Daddy's Home was the same amount. Seems dumb to spend that much when we know these comedy sequels usually perform worse.

Orient Express looks like a bargain in comparison.

Murder on the Orient Express will be lucky to make half of that in the US.

Yeah but it could do solid overseas.

Everything could do solid overseas, but I still don't see it being of interest outside of Australia, the UK, Germany, and France. China may eat it up. Who knows. Does the success of a film yet again depend on Beijingers? We'll see.

I am surprised that Murder was made cheaper than DH2.

Well, it does make sense. Daddy's Home 2 was a proven concept with the first doing $150m.

Murder on the Orient Express is not a proven concept. It is an original movie with box office poison Johnny Depp, no other potential draws, and Kenneth Branagh (a director who without guaranteed winners like Cinderella and Thor is also box office poison).

MOE seems completely reasonable and everything; $150m worldwide is just guaranteed, with a gross of around or over $200m not surprising either.

DH2 will have hardly any worldwide appeal, and whether it makes even $100m domestic would be a big question mark, thus the budget seems too high, they must have really gone all out with the stunts on this one.
