Really good number for The Aviator. That could propel it to 7 Million this weekend... M$B did about what expected, I find it even a (little) bit disappointing Hide and Seek did tremendous business ![]() |

I am somewhat disappointed with all the results for the BP nominees. MDB did just fine but not as impressive as many were predicting. It will be lucky if it gets a 11 million weekend. I was expecting 2.5 million for Aviator which would lead to a 8 million weekend. I am not sure and I doubt it that it will get 7 million this weekend. ![]() And poor Tara Reid =D> |

That is a little low for the nominees. I predicted way too high for all of them. ](*,) |

Good for Hide and Seek of course - which looks to be frontloaded. But ive heard news that Alone in the Dark is tracking even behind Elektra this weekend...... |

I agree. Really disappointing for Million Dollar Baby. I was expecting a weekend over 13 million. And is anyone besides me disappointed with The Aviator's Friday number? I am not sure if it can makes 7 million this weekend. *crosses fingers* |

Heh. I guess most general audiences are dissappointed in what movies were nominated for best picture this year. Is this one o0f the lowest increases for oscar nominated pictures in years? |

makes sense considering all of them have a very indie feeling ... yes .. even the aviator. |

I dunno, maybe it's just me but all the films did fine. I might even be impressed, except for Coach Carter. Considering the word of mouth for that movie, it's pretty disappointing. Million Dollar Baby did okay. Nothing too big, but I wasn't expecting anything over $12-13 million, hopefully it will hit $11m The Aviator could have done a little better I guess but I think it will still hit $100m. There's still a month for the Oscar and then it's gonna win, so it will make more. |

Assault on Precinct 13 - $3.8 million Zingaling, you are right. R-rated horror, has its market. It also shows that Miramax/Dimension may make the stupid that edit CURSED to get PG-13. (Bigger opening weekend, smaller total gross?) |

As far as the Oscar nominated films are concerned, with the exception of Million Dollar Baby, they have all been in fairly wide release for a while, so it's expected that most people will not rush out to see it on Friday night, yet wait for Saturday (espescially since they are adult skewing films), so they should still do some impressive numbers for the weekend. As for Million Dollar Baby, I am not surprised at the mild opening, it is right in line with Mystic River... plus this one had a fairly light ad campaign going into the weekend... expect miliscule drops though as word starts to spread. The Aviator should have no problem hitting the $100 million mark, as it will probably have drops in the 10-15% range for the next 4 weeks, and then get another boost from the Oscars themselves... Hide and Seek deserves kudos for opening big even with horrible reviews. Dakota Fanning has some nice box office numbers under her belt now... with War of the Worlds still to come this summer... not bad for a 10 year old! |

It's possible that Lions Gate hasn't released the numbers for Alone in the Dark yet. This happened in September, when Focus didn't release any data for Shaun of the dead until Sunday, and everyone assumed that it was a huge flop. If Alone in the Dark actually did gross under a million on friday, it would be the biggest derby killer since Thunderbirds. Heh, I thought that $5 million was underpredicting. |

the numbers for the other films are out Alone in the Dark did $0.85m on Friday..... Elektra dropped another 70% due to that massive theater dice. |

Horrible for Alone in the Dark. If it falls today it might make only a little over $2m or even less than $2m!!! |
