Radcliffe is a huge draw in UK, it seems. These are amazing numbers for a horror film.

Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread - War Horse #1 for 3 weeks
Quote:
Marvel Avengers Assemble is the number one film in the UK and Ireland after taking £15.78m in its opening weekend.

The film sees comic book superheroes Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America team up to save the earth.

Its weekend takings exceeded those of Spider-Man 3, which had an £11.83m opening in 2007, and The Dark Knight, which made £11.19m on its 2008 debut.

Quote:
£15.78m, including Thursday previews of £2.55m. That's more than double the openings of Iron Man (£5.47m including previews of £667,000) and Iron Man 2 (£7.66m including previews of £877,000) from early May 2008 and late April 2010 respectively. The Avengers takings are also more than the entire runs of last year's franchise extensions Thor (£14.05m) and Captain America: The First Avenger (£9.48m) as well as both of the last decade's Hulk movies, which took £8.43m (Ang Lee's The Hulk, starring Eric Bana) and £8.28m (Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton).

Quote:
Disney is trumpeting the result as the biggest superhero-movie opening of all time. The Dark Knight debuted with £11.19m including £2.50m in previews. Spider-Man 3 kicked off with £11.83m (all from the Friday-Sunday period, no previews) in May 2007. Disney is also celebrating it as the second-biggest four-day weekend ever (behind Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, with £16.49m). However, this achievement loses some of its lustre when you consider certain three-day opening results, notably Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (£18.32m) and Part 2 (£23.75m). Coming off the disappointment of the over-budgeted John Carter, which has failed to crack £5m in total in the UK, Disney will have regained some much-needed spring in its step

Where does Mamma Mia! fall on this list? Sixth or seventh, maybe?

Universal Wins Historic Triple Crown - 'Minions,' 'Ted 2' and 'Jurassic World' saw the studio become the first ever to claim a 1-2-3 in Britain.

Will do :)

Wish I could change the title to just say "UK Box Office" but that's not a big problem.

I am sure one of the mods can change it so that you are the thread creator if they can be bothered. But they're lazy wimps afraid to do anything productive.

If only they would give me mod powers for the whole forum. This place would be humming...

Well, not giving you full power is probably the best decision they have made. Though, so far, you've done good in the film review forum. But then not much discussion is held there for you to interfere with.

The forum doesn't have enough activity to police conversations. We're all pretty used to how things work here.

If this was a busier forum like it used to be, then comments would have to be watched more carefully.

What might be good for other members is to put a USD amount in brackets. But if you do, be aware of historical exchange rates.
