Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread
Thanks. Would have preferred it in £ but no worries. I thought since you were doing opening weekends that you might also accumulate total gross. Anyway, it pretty much emulates the US yearly list apart from 2016 films and T2: Trainspotting. Glad to see that my countrymen didn't give much of a shit about Wonder Woman. It will finish the year outside the top 15.

Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread
7th - 9th July 2017

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming £9,369,166 (OPENING WTFSS) from 616 sites

The third iteration of Spider-Man pulled in £6.77M Friday-Sunday and Wednesday and Thursday of £2.6M. The opening is almost the same as 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man that made £6.76M, but had a Tuesday-Thursday of £4.33M which translates to a six-day opening of £11.09M. 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made £6.13M in the Friday-Sunday and £9.01M including previews. Spider-Man 3 opened to £11.83M without previews. As for a reason the film may not have performed so well, the UK saw some great weather over the last weekend and that may have hurt the film, it hurt the other movies in the cinema with some experience big drops.

2. Despicable Me 3 £5,275,120 total: £19,578,209 (2nd week)

This film fell a little hard from its over £11M opening, the film is behind Finding Dory's 10-day haul of £20.25M, which came out when schools were out for the summer. The past week Scottish and private schools have broken up.

3. Despicable Me 3 £1,388,336 total: £6,554,729 (2nd week)

This film is doing well enough, even with all the drops in the top 10 it should hold well next weekend if the sun goes away for a day or two next weekend.

4. Transformers: The Last Knight £440,822 total: £8,961,918 (3rd week)

This film has been performing abysmally, the film has gone from a disgustingly low £3.89M to a second weekend of £1.6M and this weekend had a massive drop of over 70%... That is awful. This film may not even reach £10M in the UK.

5. Wonder Woman £315,611 total: £21,456,299 (6th week)

This film has been having a middling performance, not exactly a flop, but not that great.

Other Openers

7. It Comes At Night £226,688

9. Mom £82,137

Next Weekend

War for the Planet of the Apes was released today in the UK (11th July 2017) and Cars 3 will join the Apes in release for this upcoming weekend on Friday.

6-months in

UK box office is up 12 % in the first half of the year vs. 2016.

Sorry for the late update

1. War for the Planet of the Apes, £7,195,773 from 597 sites (new)

Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread
21-23 July 2017

1. Dunkirk, £10,023,720 from 638 sites (new)

Christopher Nolan's World War II film pushes to £10M a milestone that only a handful of films can reach a year. For one, the number of sites for its opening is more than War for the Planet of the Apes, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Despicable Me 3 and Wonder Woman. Warner Brothers reported an IMAX take of £1.33M (without 3D). The film is the fourth biggest 3-day opening behind Beauty and the Beast, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Despicable Me 3.

2. Despicable Me 3, £3,082,983 from 645 sites. Total: £30,319,469 (three weeks)

Illumination's Despicable Me 3 passed £30M becoming the fifth film of the year to do so following La La Land, Beauty and the Beast, Fast & Furious 8 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Competition in the next weeks include Captain Underpants which opened on 24th July and The Emoji Movie which releases August 4th.

3. War for the Planet of the Apes, £2,714,119 from 612 sites. Total: £12,667,484 (two weeks)

This film may be a little bit disappointing after a large drop from last weekend.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming, £2,183,542 from 565 sites. Total: £21,072,253 (three weeks)

Spider-Man is doing okay, the film should hit £25M soon and may leg it out a little further.

5. Cars 3, £1,636,488 from 581 sites. Total: £5,072,811 (two weeks)

Cars 3 is doing okay but the film is only at £5.1M after two weeks, although Cars 3 has never been that big in the UK.

6. André Rieu’s 2017 Maastricht Concert, £1,439,604 from 546 sites (new)

Up a tiny bit from last year's cinema event on the same weekend which went against The BFG and Star Trek Beyond and made £1.41M.

Other Openers:

9. The Black Prince, £81,451 from 34 sites (new)

Great opening for Dunkirk. Really pleased for it but it's not a surprise as it's a full-on British film that Brits are always more interested in.

I was expecting Dunkirk to be the biggest opener in UK but that is still a strong opening.

28-30th July 2017

1. Dunkirk £8,235,532 (2nd week) total: £27,017,724

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk dropped less than 20% this weekend... That is insane. This will also be the fifth film to reach £30M in 2017. The weekdays Mon-Thurs pulled in £8.8M, the film may be able to pull in over £35.81M to pass Inception's take by the end of this coming weekend. As for Nolan's biggest film The Dark Night Rises made £56.3M which Dunkirk could pass given that there isn't any major competition.

2. Captain Underpants £2,495,744 (OPENING)

This is below debuts like The Boss Baby and Home and more in line with Megamind and The Bee Movie. Although it may have legs.

3. Despicable Me 3 £2,250,597 (5th week) total: £35,851,868

Even with the competition of The Emoji Movie this upcoming weekend the film may be able to reach £40M over the upcoming weekend.

4. War for the Planet of the Apes £1,656,290 (3rd week) total: £16,240,721

The film will likely pass Rise's total run of £20.77M in the coming weeks.

5. Spider-Man: Homecoming £1,560,458 (4th week) total: £24,540,135

Currently the film is the seventh biggest Marvel film overtaking The Amazing Spider-Man 2's £24.1M and should soon pass The Amazing Spider-Man's £25.9M

6. Girls Trip £1,557,981 (OPENING)

Slightly above Bad Moms' £1.47M and that film went on to make £8.6M

7. Cars 3 £1,013,547 (3rd week) total: £7,403,511

This could be the lowest grossing Pixar film in the UK as it may no outgross The Good Dinosaur £14.8M

8. 47 Metres Down £637,964

It's down on The Shallows which made £801K which went on to make £2.24M

10. The Big Sick £488,718 (OPENING)

The Big Sick should see good midweek buisness.

Future Releases

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets releases on Wednesday 2nd August, The Emoji Movie has previews on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd August for full release on Friday 4th August. And releasing fully on Friday is Maudie, The Ghoul, England is Mine and Williams

The audience retention from The Amazing Spider-Man to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was incredible, and it looks like Spider-Man: Homecoming is improving on that with a little help from Iron Man.

Great, great, great for Dunkirk. I doubt it passes The Dark Knight, but it will gross more than Inception, which is already a huge feat, adding more than $50m to its worldwide cume.
