Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread
That's a decent opening on paper for AQP but its almost the entire week's total so its not a true opening.

RPO fell harder than I expected in UK. Very good opening for Simon as well.

So Escape Plan II is meant to be coming out on 20th July in cinemas and to rent, but I've just checked three major cinema chains (VUE, Odeon, and Showcase) and I cannot find one mention of it on any of the sites. So it's bound to bomb. Maybe it will just play in a handful of independent cinemas. The first UK poster said "in cinemas", then the most recent release has added "& to rent", so I guess they just couldn't get other cinema chains to take it after the awful reviews from elsewhere in the world. So now it's basically just a VOD release. :(

Just found a site saying it's playing at only 10 locations, but then I clicked to see what locations and it could no longer find them. This isn't looking good.

Post Re: The UK Box Office Thread
So the UK finally got Ant-Man and The Wasp, and it opened in second place to $4.8m, behind the THIRD weekend of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!. Bit of a shit opening for a Marvel film there.

But MM2 will easily take the UK as its second-biggest market. It might not beat IW to become the UKs #1 2018 film, but it will surely take the #2 spot ahead of Black Panther.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout doesn't seem to be performing well. Big drops and it's only its second weekend!

Whoa Endgame almost tripled the next biggest opener of 2019. What's its difference from the second position in the all time list of biggest openers?

Avengers: Endgame had a 4 day weekend and made £43.4M over the Thur-Sun period

2nd of all time, while not very comparable to most releases is Spectre which made £41.3M on an opening 7-day period (Mon-Sun)

The most comparable release is number 3 in the all-time opening weekends, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a 4-day opening (Thur-Sun) of £34M

Avengers: Infinity War made £29.4M over a 4-day period also (Thur-Mon).

Hey, so I just finished making the spreadsheet I need for listing the top opening weekends of the decade. So here's a tidbit of information for you before we head into the penultimate weekend of the decade.

If Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens to 70% of The Last Jedi as some rumours have suggested, we will be looking at £20.2M. This would be the 8th biggest opening above Skyfall which did £20.18M. It's still a ways off from Episode 7 in 3rd place and Episode 8 in 5th place.

This decade 59 films opened above £10M so far (soon to be 60.) As of now 164 films have opened above £5M and 756 films have opened above £1M!

Endgame managed a multiplier of approximately 2. Is that normal for a big blockbuster in UK?

Not normal, it was a very quick decline. People thought £100M+ was likely, but it did decline heavily in week 2 and 3.

Overall, the UK doesn't have terrible multipliers, it's more comparable to the domestic market than to China's. Spider-Man: Far From Home had a 2.65x multiplier. Whereas, The Lion King had a 4.57 multiplier. Captain Marvel had a multi of 3.19.

So I think the multiplier for Endgame was a product of fanboys who rushed out to see the film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker posts a Thursday of $8.3M or £6.37M

For comparison, Star Wars: The Last Jedi posted a $10.2M Thursday which was £7.65M

If it follows The Last Jedi from here on out, we are looking at around £24M or $31.3M for the full 4-day opening weekend.
