Fox Searchlight is a very good distributor, the had released many crossover hits in recent years, such as NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, GARDEN STATE, BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, ONE HOUR PHOTO, 28 DAYS LATER...... MILLIONS is a new movie that was directed by Danny Boyle (28 DAYS LATER). This movie got very good reviews at 2004. Fox Searchlight will release this movie's PG-rated edited version in US on March 11 (limited release). With the help of Fox Searchlight, I think that this movie would gross more than $20 million in US and become another Fox Searchlight's crossover hit. l really like the trailer...but it seems VERY familiar...almost as if it were a remake of something...dunno why... anyway, l kinda doubt it'll make that much...maybe more like 9-12...but then again, l'm far from good at these things...just wanted to comment... :wink:  :?

Eeeew, 28 DAYS LATER was diabolical. Seriously the worst movie i seen in 2002. (UK). Absolute un-scary, mind numbingly boring tripe. :evil: |

If this movie gets the 80%+ reviews like most Fox Searchlight films, then yes 20m is not out of the question. I for one will go see it, it looks very interesting. Reminds me of that movie ... what was it ... the red flyer? KJ |

Millions looks.....damn irritating. Seriously, me and kids - we have an understanding. If they are annoying they stay the fuck away and i dont punch them Although kids seem to really like me so im constantly adopted babysitter. |

MILLIONS' US box office performance is a big disappointment for me. This family movie is getting amazing reviews. With a good grassroots marketing push, this movie should gross more than $10 million in US. Now, this movie will be lucky to gross more than $5 million in US...... Fox Searchlight always does good job to promote movies. Unlucky, MILLIONS is a exception.... |

Well aside from the fact that it's just not a great movie (qv: my review in the Overseas & Indies forum) - they are keeping it in extremely limited release for a long time. I find that often kills a movie's chances of drawing a bigger crowd, because the reviews (and they were very positive) came out 4-5 weeks ago now. And WOM from the hip urban crowd at the one downtown theatre it's been playing at, doesn't necessarily get passed on to the suburban crowds (weeks later) when it finally widens... |

I think that Fox Searchlight shot themselves in the foot by having a small movie made by Danny Boyle, and then having the movie looking too weird for families and too sugary sweet and cutesy for anyone else (I mean c'mon, the poster is a little freckled kid smiling like it's the 4th grade yearbook.). Unlike most Fox Searchlight movies, this one was probably just too hard to market. |

Downfall could really only be targetted at one audiance so it had no problem figuring out where to place adds and how they should color the information in those adds. When I first saw the trailer for millions it looked terribly cutesy. Then I saw it again and thought it might be more of a fantasy psychology film (like Donnie Darko) but then saw it a third time and thought, nope, cutesy. If really couldn't figure out who should be wanting to see this movie. Too bad, it doesn't look totally horrific, it just couldn't latch onto anyone. |

The movie didn't really have a specific demographic that it was aiming for, and in the end didn't really get any one group very well. |

You people may be right at this point. According to screendaily.com, "Difficult to categorise, Millions may struggle to define itself as family fare or adult drama and simply fall through the cracks. " I still think that MILLIONS could be a box office hit. Variety's reviewer think that WHALE RIDER is also a movie that "may having some trouble positioning itself between family-pic and arthouse poles." In fact, WHALE RIDER did very similary to MILLIONS at opening weekend; but the box office legs of WHALE RIDER is much better than MILLIONS, thanks to the good grassroots marketing push. PS: In US, WHALE RIDER is released by Bob Berney, who releases DOWNFALL in US. He is a master of grassroots marketing. |

Just because YOUR dissapointed with a movie's gross, but no one else seems to be BO DISSAPOINTMENT! or BOX OFFICE FLOP or something like HORRIBLE NEW TRAILER. I agree with you that I can't use HORRIBLE NEW TRAILER as a thread title in BO forum. Otherwise, I don't think so.
