Hmm, just checked the first two Rugrats movies, and both had great internal multipliers, 4 for the first one and over 5 for the second one. I think SpongeBob still can get to 35M.

Why such a huge increase for Sponge Bob's saturday number? Aren't we forgetting that National Treasure is sharing the same audience age group with Sponge Bob and most likely the kids may see National Treasure over Sponge Bob based on friday's number?

I say yes they share the same audience. The movie is advertised as the producers of Pirates of the Carrabean and its PG (not rated PG-13). Don't forget the Mcdonalds tie in. So by those points yes the movie is also geared towards kids under the age of 13

No, he's right, they dont share the same audience.
Spongebob has the pot-smoking college students nailed down, they wont be going to see National Treasure

The point I'm making is that Sponge Bob won't likely to have such a high multiplier since its mostly little kids that make up the huge multiplier for saturday and not reefers(Harold & Kumar type movies). I just don't think Sponge Bob's multiplier will be that high like some people are estimating 15 million for saturday since those same little kids can go see National Treasure which surprisingly took the top spot for friday's number.

National Treasure is more of an adult date movie with some appeal to younger guys thrown in. Spongebob is more for 6 year olds and those grownups who are into the campy pop culture aspect of it.

These are Friday-to-Friday drops. I think the multipliers across the board could be higher since last Friday is the day after Veteran Day, where some were basically taking a long weekend off.

How much did Spongebob take to make? I'm sure it'll get its money back. Not too bad for TI, and really good for NT.

Spongebob and National Treasure both did really good. National Treasure is very surprising, and Spongebob did as expected (or maybe just a tad bit lower than I expected). Still, I expect a great weekend multiplier for both movies, especially Spongebob. And wow, on everything else. Everything took a big nosedive. Bridget, Bridget, Bridget, how could you!? I guess the chicks all went first weekend.
My Projections
National Treasure - $33.0
Spongebob Squarepants - $34.7
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason - $11.0

I dont understand the general reaction.
Spongebob will do something in the low 30s which is very good and gives it a good chance at $100m, while National Treasure did much better than the generally expected low 20s it should have done. A big drop for Incredibles but it still has a long run ahead. If it doesnt reach $300m it will get atleast $280m. Polar express did ok - and will coast to about $100m when you consider the Christmas uptick.
Bridget Jones is the only real dissapointment. And alot of it comes down to another bonehead studio release strategy. Here in Oz it opened wide last week and did the equivalent of $50-$60m US opening. This would have done much better in January where it initially was scheduled.
Thats bonehead studio decision no.3 of 4 for 2004 - the others being:
1. Fox release Garfield a week after HP3
2. WB release P Express a week after Incredibles
3. Universal gives Bridge Jones a platform release though WOM isnt good
4. New Line releases Blade in December and o n the same weekend as O12.
All these films will have decent grosses - but far below what they could have done.

Suprisingly good for National Treasure. Since when has Nicholas Cage been able to open a movie this high?
Surprisingly, The Spongebob Movie has a higher PTA than The Rugrats Movie did. It still has a very good chance of winning the weekend, except National Treausre also seems to appeal to younger audiences as well.
Bridget Jones' number is not that surprising. It was ridiculous to think that Bridget would make $18-22 million this weekend; in normal circumstances, that would have required a $40 million 1st weekend. For this type of movie to get more than $10 million in 2450 theaters on its second weekend is very decent, especially since most people who wanted to see the movie already saw it over Veteran's Day weekend.
