Looks like Zathura is the Kicking and Screaming of the winter. Why release this a week before Potter?? I actually thought it had a shot at over $90 million.

I will write my full report tomorrow for the site, when the actuals are out, but here are some quick comments:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Decent hold, just slighty worse than I originally expected. I still stick with my original projection of $284-285 million. The upcoming weekend will be the most important one. If it drops less than 60%, it will make $300 million, if not, well, then not. By the way, I read the comment from the studio, that WB actually expects it to pass $300 million We shall see.

Walk the Line - Great hold. Not entirely unexpected, but still stunning. Once again, its $100 million chances will be decided next weekend.

Yours, Mine and Ours - The opening makes me sad, heh. Surprising how it could withstand the power of Chicken Little and Harry Potter. But then again, last year Christmas with the Kranks could deal with The Polar Express, The Incredibles and Spongebob. I don't expect it to pass $70 million, but $55-60 million is a lock.

Rent - Who'd have thought its legs would be even much worse than Alexander's? Expect a drop-off of at least 65% next weekend. It'll struggle to pass $35 million in total.

Pride and Prejudice - Good expansion, but you know, it's Focus, they'll drop the movie like it's a hot potato. I don't expect major expansions anymore. Still it will make $30+ million.

Derailed - Very nice gross and should end up close to $40 million.

Jarhead - Finally a decent hold. At least it will pass $65 million now.

Saw II - Much better hold than I expected. Looks like it is still in the running for the biggest fall hit crown.

Good Night, and Good Luck - A nice increase. With a good Oscar campaign, it should pass $25 million with ease.

The Polar Express - IMAX - Very impressive start. I expect it to make close to $8 million in total with this re-release.
