No, but it's 100% appealing to all age-groups, including elementary-aged children and senior citizens. There isn't a particular day-part where the film either excels nor slows down, rather it's always steady business in terms of percentage share throughout the whole day, a clear indication it's bringing in all demographics.

And that's not surprising. A recent Oricon poll (3,848 responders ranging in their teens to their sixties) found that a whopping 97.8% of Japanese are aware of the series. And 76% said they either "liked" or "really liked" the series.

For their reasons for liking the series, the survey found:

76.4% for the story.
49.3% for the setting.
45.3% for the relatability of the characters.

Furthermore, 31% of those that liked/really liked it said they own the manga, with 66.1% of them saying they own all the volumes.

And here is an expert from ANN's article talking about how it's impacted all age-groups:

Multiple respondents commented on how the series helped them treasure and connect with their family. A woman in her thirties said, "I would never have thought that at my age I would have a conversation about anime with my mother, who is in her sixties." A woman in her forties said that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was the first time she, her spouse, and their child watched a film together in the cinemas. A man in his sixties that said he was enjoying the series while letting his son explain it to him.

Other respondents remarked on how the growth of their children has become tied with Demon Slayer. Another woman in her thirties commented on how her child, who never liked kanji, was really happy to learn the kanji for "pillar" at school. A man in his thirties remarked that his two-year-old daughter learned to say "Kimetsu no Yaiba," and a man in his forties said that his daughter was starting to show an interest in history because of the series.

The mainstream appeal of the series has also allowed people of different generations to connect even in the workplace and beyond. A woman in her thirties remarked that when going to karaoke with people of different age groups, everyone is able to bond over the theme songs "Gurenge" and "Homura." A woman in her fifties said that she was having more conversations with people in her family and at work, and a man in his sixties says that he loves talking to Demon Slayer fans.

Another recent, but separate survey found that among elementary-aged children, the series' main character, Tanjiro, ranked as their most admired person, ahead of their moms. In addition to Tanjiro ranking 1st, six other characters from the series made their top 10.

wow, this is no joke.
when a movie's meanings and messages can resonate with people well and actually affect and change the way people thinking, acting in society, then it is really something.
i can say how much the praticality of the movie meanings, messages, values,.... contributing in big part in its success in box office run in general.

Regarding Friday's seating, just remember that it doesn't correlate with how a film might debut or hold. It sort of just sets a limit, but that limit is usually out of reach in most cases anyway. Also, Friday seating tends to favor openers, so the weekend seating will likely be reduced slightly for the openers, and increase slightly for some holdovers.

And for Demon Slayer, it's obviously going to be down a lot this upcoming weekend. You don't see a 43% increase and manage a good hold the next, no matter the film. In these rare cases, the following weekend tends to drop like 35/40%+. It's probably going to drop ~40% or more given how significant last weekend's giveaway was compared to the previous two.

And given this, I think theaters allocated the seating this weekend quite well. There was no reason to keep Demon Slayer on so many seats this weekend since it's not going to need them. This has allowed for enough seats for all three wide openers to more or less perform to their full potential if they're able. This also lets theaters see which of the openers meet/exceed expectations or possibly disappoint, so that they can allocate the seating appropriately for future weekends.

Weird that the article says this:
"the film will release on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan sometime in late January"
That...doesn't seem likely at all.

They're probably just assuming the same theatrical window that Hollywood films typically get. Domestic films, especially a phenomenon like Demon Slayer, can usually stay in theaters much longer before they see a home release.

Yea I thought that Japanese movies released blu ray later so it was weird they probably assumed.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals; Demon Slayer Hits ¥30B
Friday Opener Estimates:

¥85-90 million ($0.8-0.9 million) - The Promised Neverland
¥55-60 million ($0.5-0.6 million) - Wonder Woman 1984
¥40-45 million ($0.4 million) - Kamen Rider Zero-One: REAL×TIME

Decent first day for The Promised Neverland. It's a little hard to determine the age-group(s) of its fanbase, but if it skews a bit toward young adults/teens like most Shonen manga series' do, then this would be a solid first day since it'll perform noticeable better over the weekend frame. It's probably heading for ¥250-300 million ($2.5/3 million) over the weekend frame. I'd consider anything over ¥250 million as satisfactory, and anything over ¥300 million as impressive.

Not too good for Wonder Woman. The DC films, and superhero films in general, are pretty fanbase-driven and don't normally improve a significant amount on Saturday from their Friday start. It's probably hoping to hit ¥200 million ($2 million) over the weekend frame, which would be down about 25% versus the first film, but could just miss that mark.

Kamen Rider is also tough to predict. This looks like a pretty good start, as the Kamen Rider films are more of weekend films due to their younger fanbase, and there aren't many comparisons to past films since they normally open on Saturdays. I'm going to assume it'll more than double Friday's take tomorrow and on Sunday, so let's say it's also aiming for ¥200 million ($2 million) or a bit more. Not bad if it lands there, but hoping for closer to ¥250 million so it get it closer to the average opening the series tends to see.

If all three films get above ¥200 million (or at least as an average), it'll be a good weekend. Demon Slayer and New Interpretation Record of the Three Kingdoms will fend all three of them off though to remain as #1 and #2, respectively.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals; Demon Slayer Hits ¥30B
All these past weekdays have been very strong for Demon Slayer.
And in the race for the 1# spot, DS has been trailing Three Kingdoms very close, just -5/15% behind every day (except for monday wich was obviously benefited by spillovers from the giveaway).

With Friday just -3/4% short from Three Kingdoms, will be a tête à tête till the last second, but Demon Slayers is in shape to claim its 10th consecutive weekend as 1#.

Demon Slayer has the advantage over Three Kingdoms to remain at #1 since it'll play better over the weekend frame, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't achieve ten-weeks at #1. And it's unlikely that Pokemon will dethrone it next weekend as it's the last giveaway weekend (and its 4DX expansion) so it'll experience a big increase, therefore 11 and also 12 weeks at #1 are quite likely. I do think Gintama on Jan. 8th will dethrone it though.

I'll have the Weekend Forecast posted later this evening.

If Gintama does dethrone it, that'll be extra funny since Gintama is doing a...well...Demon Slayer giveaway for its first week. Yep.

It takes a Demon Slayer to defeat a Demon Slayer

@Corpse, you think next weekend we could see a big increase for DS, but by what degree ? 20% / 30% / 50% ?

It's hard to say at this time, but given it jumped 43% last weekend, I'd have to believe something similar at least is likely next weekend. It depends on a few factors: 1. What it earns this weekend. 2. How many seats it's on next weekend. 3. What the final giveaway is.

It'll also receive a bump to its average ticket price from the 4DX showings beginning next week.

Going to crush the all time record. 25% looks out of reach but maybe it won’t finish that far away. This is why for me it’s an unquestioned most impressive run in the market.

25% would require +¥42 billions. Seems to high.
¥37/38 billions would give it close to 22/23%, and that is already would destroy the current record.

But with this movie, who knows!! The sky is the limit
