 Re: Tenet predictions
WW was always going to drop off, if anything the pandemic demand should actually help big time especially with a few weeks of feeling out the theater situation. Film WOM is going to be irrelevant compared to theater WOM. It’ll be interesting to see if reports go old school trades and tell how a movie is doing in different parts of the country

Magnus wrote: It's not really a time travel because time travel means everything gets reverted back to a certain state. I'll post in spoilers even though it's only my theory and nothing official. The concept of inversion means traveling backwards while everything is traveling forward.
Let's assume line X represents time and our normal perception of time starts at left moves right.
X -------------------------
Object A is normal. So when it goes through line X, it travels from left to right.
A------------------------>A
Object B is inverted. So when it goes through line X, it travels from right to left.
B<-----------------------B
The two objects are existing in the same line at the same time but going in opposite directions (hence the shots of Washington moving one way and the plane moving another) . Thus, when object A reaches its end point right part of the line, it sees object B at its starting point. Conversely, when object B reaches its end point, it reaches when object A is in its starting point.
How an object gets inverted is still a mystery but I feel confident that the gas masks that they wear is fundamental to how one can become inverted (if you look at the poster, the upside down figure has the mask on and in the scene shown during Endgame, the individuals who put on gas masks became inverted). The taglines also imply that being inverted is a short-term state so one can only do it during brief stretches. My initial theory is that the gas mask changes the chemical composition of the object to allow it to be inverted. Though it likely could also be that the gas mask somehow transports you into a new time dimension and this dimension of time works opposite of our version of time.
Amusingly, I think the closest cinematic comparison to what it's trying to do with time is Benjamin Button. This sounds like a laborious, contrived mess. Should've made Inception 2.

“Based on current expectations, New York State is supposed to open broadly in early July, ahead of Tenet. New York City will be right on the cusp,” AMC CEO said. “That assumes that Tenet holds on July 17, and that’s a decision that’s being made in a different board room than ours.” They're playing with time even outside the movie

Tenet: Looks like Chicago and LA theaters will be largely open in time for the premiere as will most of the rest of the domestic market. Just need NYC to be ready for July 17th. It’s worth noting that many states may still have restrictions on gatherings bigger than 50 people. Seating restrictions will have to be outweighed by more screenings (due to lack of competition).

 Re: Tenet predictions
In some countries (like mine), Tenet will release on July 30, and can you guess what's that date...? yes, it's Nolan's 50th birthday! Though there're two big countries: Italy and Japan, that will open in September instead, I strongly recommend WB to move it earlier to July just like all other countries.
Anyway, as much as I want to see Tenet as soon as possible, the most unacceptable release date of the whole new WB schedule is that the Matrix 4 is postponed from 2021 to 2022, I can't wait for that long!

 Re: Tenet predictions
Nolan's 50th birthday is a big deal now? Have movies in the past benefited from a director's birthday?

Back to avoiding this fucking hellsite. Chippy vote in my pop tournament. Tenet is letting Mulan go first now. Both will be delayed when second wave hits. They can hold the blockbusters but all mid tier, low budget and awards films will be VOD.

 Re: Tenet predictions
They really should just have released all these films on VOD when they were supposed to come out. The advertising budget for a blockbuster can be over $200M globally. Now it will be double that if they have to re-advertise the film for 2021. They will end up losing money on everything when they could've at least made some money by going VOD.

 Re: Tenet predictions
Its only being delayed a couple of weeks not to 2021.
I think the studios stand to make far more by releasing theatrically and than VOD. They may take a bit of a hit theatrically but VOD should be stronger.
They also take the gamble that while a large number people will stay home, releasing early and with little competition + pent up demand by many will ultimately bridge most of that gap.

 Re: Tenet predictions
Also I just read from article (can't find it now) that in pandemic time studio can save advertising budget as much as 50%. So the Tenet promotional budget shouldn't exceed $100M, it might even be around $50M. Edit: found the article https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ ... en-1297700

 Re: Tenet predictions
^ That's good to know about advertising budgets, I had no idea.
What I feel is that endlessly delaying these films is also going to cut into the gross because the hype deflates. Is anyone that excited about Mulan, Black Widow, and No Time to Die anymore? Drumming up excitement for a major blockbuster takes months and months of hype to ensure the attendance they need to break even. It's this giant exercise in getting the people into a frenzy and all those films were well underway in that process.

I can see it releasing in September or October. The movie did get good amount of publicity because of these date shifts.
