Pretty soft for the openers. I know they weren’t tracking well but the previews indicated they’d go higher

67% week-to-week drop for Black Panther. Ouch.

That would be very disappointing for Black Panther

Black Panther being frontloaded should have been expected. No it won't be passing $600m anymore but it's still outperforming even the highest of expectations.

Poor Natalie Portman though. She can't get a hit movie to save her life.

Close! $29.69m. And that should give it $100m too.

I feel like taking a long break from films is what did it. She was a hot commodity at the time of Black Swan/ No Strings Attached/Thor but didn't have a chance to capitalize on that before starting a family. Now she's back but hasn't really starred in anything overly commercial.

Ugh, the viewing public disgust me with the way they treat working mothers. We should all have preserved our feelings regarding Portman while she took a break, but we are all just sexist cunts.

Annihilation didn't really tank. Could have been worse. It's only in 2,000 theaters. Average will be above $5,000. With its reviews had it opened on a weekend by itself when there wasn't a beast like Black Panther playing it definitely would have opened better. Feels like this spring's The Witch. Both are divisive (critics love them, audiences not so much - same CinemaScore too), similar theater count, etc... Annhilation is going to open about 2 Million higher. Though of course The Witch was way more successful given its tiny budget and advertising spend.
