Dunkirk multiplier from its 2nd weekend was 4.13. Inception's multiplier from its 2nd weekend was about 4.5. The latter had significantly more competition than Dunkirk did and was coming off a bigger 2nd weekend and still managed a sizable better multiplier.

Dunkirk should get a lot of credit for opening to 50m. That isn't an easy task. It's a very strong opening weekend for the type of movie it is. But the type of audiences it attracts, the Oscar buzz, and the complete emptiness of August should be factors that make its legs seem fairly weak.

I think the overall end total around 185m (and 500m WW) is very respectable total that shows Nolan is far ahead of almost everyone else in being able to attract a mass audience to any type of movie. It definitely validates his "blockbuster aueter" title.

But the legs to me don't seem that strong given the factors.

Yeah, its performance has been remarkable. No other director could pull off such a feat with a creatively delivered war movie with no stars.

Nolan needs to helm something with popular source material behind it again. I was hoping he'd be the Episode 9 director. internet would break. truly.

He doesn't, but Bond will probably always be there on the table for him if he wants it.

Why in the world would he want that?

This is also one of the most annoying thing about geeks. "You're an interesting filmmaker who excels at original work - please attach yourself to Part 11 of this movie series!"

The performance has been very good. Especially considering word of mouth isn't really out of this world.

:funny:

Yeah, I think Nolan should stick with the big budget original projects as long as WB keeps funding them.

I hear Nolan's up for consideration for the job of directing Mike Judge's upcoming live action King of the Hill feature film.

He did mystery thriller, then mystery thriller, then superhero films, then psychological sci-fi thriller, then pure science fiction, then war movie...I mean, what's next? I'd love to see his take on a straight up, original action film.

After debuting much higher on IMDb's Top 250 list, Dunkirk has plummeted to #61 and is falling fast. I wouldn't be surprised to see it out of the top 150 when the DVD is released. Other than the pre-cult Insomnia, this is a long overdue slap in the face for Nolan from his fans. Hopefully he will take it as a wake-up call and start making good movies again.

- 4. The Dark Knight
- 14. Inception
- 32. Interstellar
- 47. The Prestige
- 48. Memento
↓ 61. Dunkirk
- 64. The Dark Knight Rises
- 115. Batman Begins

Dunkirk's now dropped into the 80's and still plunging.
