Aquaman isn't going to open very big anyway, but it should do 200 million at the bare minimum now.

I can see Aquaman actually being a high grossing film. A surprise, if you will. It is a character we've not seen before. It's fresh. Not the boring, been-done-to-death Batman or Superman.

This appears to be the Live By Night of next year's Oscars. A film with certain pedigree that is qualifying itself for nomination but that will get ignored by the voters. The director has experience with well-made films, but his directorial experience is lacking (debut was The Town That Dreaded Sundown remake followed by Sundance-loved Me and Earl and the Dying Girl). Cumberbatch, Shannon, Hoult, and Holland all have talent but are not Oscar favourites. The one thing is has going in its favour is being distributed by Weinstein, but then they also have the ability to fuck up this type of awards film in recent years (Macbeth, Sing Street, Hands of Stone, The Founder, Gold etc.), so we'll see.

just noticed Kingsman 2 moved to September 29. Good, opening against Blade Runner would be dumb.

Lionsgate and CBS Film's American Assassin, starring Michael Keaton, will be released on 15th September.

Fox Searchlight's Billie Jean King biopic, Battle of the Sexes, starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell, will be released on 22nd September.

They must be very confident in Baby Driver to move it up to June (and they probably have reason to be). August is SO empty now that it's not even funny though. Something needs to move there immediately.

That's a shame. While I'm happy its coming out sooner, August was perfect for it.

There still is time for King Arthur to move there.
Blade Runner or Kingsman or American Made perhaps.

American Made should move to the first weekend of August ala Collateral if it'll be ready in time.

I don't know if Baby Driver is really the film that would have benefited from a barren August anyway. The new date will give it more summer weekdays and possibly a holiday boost, even if it's now facing multiple mega-openers (DM3, Spider-Man, Apes, Dunkirk).

June 28 is my birthday though, so whatever happens box office wise it is to me personally an amazing decision.

it'd be funny if Amityville, that had it's first trailer in 2014 (!?), moves again. It's going up against another horror movie too, so weird.

I can't wait to see it but that seems stupid for Baby Driver to move there. There's so much competition! They could move it up to August 4th but I wouldn't go any earlier. I guess they're trying to copy the success of The Shallows which also opened in that spot.
