Re: January 27-29 predictions
Hmm I thought they were cancelling A Dog's Purpose, but it still looks like it's opening wide next week. Anyways, the controversy has pretty much put the nail in the coffin on that one and as for Resident Evil I don't see why it would do any better than Blood Wars, especially when the last movie barely cracked $40 million five years ago.

I'm almost tempted to see A Dog's Purpose because of that video. He sat on that footage for a year, obviously he had a motive to release it now.

That's just the way TMZ works. They wait until their "scoops" make the most impact.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
Yeah TMZ is just evil. They don't actually care about animal welfare (otherwise they would have released it as soon as they had received it in order to effect change in the company and industry immediately), they just knew releasing it right before the film opens would give them the most clicks.

I bet ADP gets a subdued release. No way it goes as wide as it was going to now.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - 16 Gold - 5
Christ, I don't know re: A Dog's Purpose. Pre-controversy, I would have predicted around 18m. Now I want to say 6 or 7. Split the difference, I guess: 12 million?

Re: January 27-29 predictions
It's really depends what they even do in regards to theater count too. Pre-controversy I think it probably would have opened around 25 Million. Now maybe 7.

I wouldn't equate immoral with amoral. It's just a click-bait site, no ulterior motives outside having the biggest impact. Obviously they don't give a single shit about animal welfare. I don't think they claimed to. It's just, 'Look at THIS gnarly scoop!' and in all honesty, I'm a huge dog person and a pretty compassionate hippy type, but I honestly don't care that much about the leaked video. The dog was terrified, yeah, and all in the pursuit of making a movie, making money. But my dog is terrified when a truck goes by. Forcing a dog into some scary jets is not something I would want to do personally, but it's slightly hilarious to witness people in hysterics over this thing. Like, meanwhile, a thousand more terrible things that happened to innocent human beings on that day.....

LoL! true. I guess in this case the 'shocking revelation' seems pretty minor to me.
just for fun--
A: I've been diagnosed with throat cancer. B: Well in the time it took you to tell me that, thirteen people died of more painful cancers than the one you have. So let's keep things in perspective. A: This is why you don't have friends, B

Re: January 27-29 predictions
If Split hadn't broke out so huge, I think La La Land would have a good shot at #1 this weekend. It would only need $15-16m coming off a likely 10+ oscar nominations.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
I'm quite positive the handful of minutes every network spent reporting on this dog issue didn't result in any humans suffering. Also, I like how you say "taking coverage/attention away from other issues" as if there isn't a 24 hour news cycle with endless platforms to relay information.
What of every news story about that rich, fat-ass, useless Kardashian POS getting robbed? That surely took up far more news hours than the dog and has nothing to do with anyone who isn't close to her--but that one deserves endless coverage because she's (kind of) human? It's just ridiculous to complain about a few minutes a day for this alleged high-profile case of animal abuse in the spotlight when so much time, every day, is spent reporting on celebrity gossip or black Friday sales or other nonsense that falls far short of the arbitrary "but what about the human suffereing??!?!!?" benchmark.

Re: January 27-29 predictions
Split will be #1 again until the weekend February 10-12. I can't see RE5 opening much more than $15M.
A Dog's Purpose and Gold will be DOA.

Will be very surprised if Universal can hold that 2,900 theater estimate for A Dog's Purpose.

From what I understand, our stance is, if the studio wants to release the movie, we will play it. It's our job to give people the opportunity to see the movie, not to take sides. It's up to the moviegoers to decide if they want to see it or not.
