3 A.M. is not so thematically different than a few other “girl finally realizes her man is an asshole and breaks free” types. But Igotta give Charli props for concluding her ordeal in a single song rather than several. Of all my favorite pop artists, she seems like the toughest.

Big Fish may sound like a stereotypical “member the 90s” rap song, but like all of Vince’s work there is much depth beyond it. He blends that 90s nostalgia with hard hitting lyrics and beats and it the result is brilliant from top to bottom.

Royal Blood are still awesome. They may have trouble with women, but they most certainly do not have trouble on the bass or the drums.

Green Light starts off in a rather dour manner. But gosh when that uplifting beat kicks in alongside the “I hear sounds in my mind” lyric it hits me hard. A feeling like I can get out of any dark place if Lorde can build hope out of hopeless.

Waiting On A Song is a highlight of how far Dan has come as a producer just as much as it highlights his voice and guitar work. Who knew he could follow up that Cage album with something just as good starring himself?

Is it the top ten already? Why yes it must be.

We hit the top ten running with maybe the best pick up line song ever made. I’m not just lusting after your body, I’m in love with the shape of you. That beat alongside will make anyone wet.

The single digits begin with a two minute rager from Ty Segall. It initially sounds like it could have been made by Sex Bomb-omb, but actually really good. Ty is one of the most underrated artists out there and I can’t wait for his next album on a few weeks.

Taylor may still be upset at the haters, but Call It What You Want perfectly blends that with the old Taylor. It sums up the whole album’s cyclical theme. Yeah this new guy will probably be the same, call it what you want, but maybe it won’t be. There is still hope for her love life.

DNA got a little underlooked with Humble dominating the airwaves so heavily. I think its easily the better song though. The beat aint as catchy but its just as strong. You can also actually understand what he’s saying in this one. Then when it seems like the song is over he rips off an incredible freestyle only Ken is capable of. That’s why he can finally say he beat Taylor on the big stage.

Sorry to bring the mood down with Linkin Park. But even before all that I had marvelled that after years of searching they found a sound that worked for them. Those post nu metal years were rough. And rather mourn with the super depressing One More Light, lets celebrate their last great song - Nobody Can Save Me.

I'm privy to "What's your name? Who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?" for musical pick up lines

Post Re: The Flava’d Fifty 2: Best of 2017
And the #1 song ... will be posted tomorrow.

But lets give it up for the rest of the top five. All potential all time greats and they still weren’t able to crack the top spot. Originally I had 5. Call It 4. Dna 3. Rose 2. Sky 1. Hook which would have been solid. I think it turned out much better with the adjustments though.

Rose Colored Boy is a 80s power pop jam that covers ground most others don’t - how to deal with an annoyingly optimist. Inside Out showed that every now and then sadness needs to take the wheel, and honestly Haley probably wrote this song because of the movie. Don’t make me laugh I’ll choke.

I detailed the end of Lights’ saga album earlier on the list. Skydiving is the beginning though, and it is intoxicating. Not only is this song incredible, but it enhances every one that follows.

Again, Royal Blood are just a magnificent addition to the world of music. I saw them live this year and still don’t understand how they do it. But that bass as guitar sound makes all their songs feel special too. And Hook wastes precisely 0 seconds getting to the action.

Told You So wasn’t even my favorite on the record at the first, but I instantly loved it and it has grown better on every subsequent. Just like Hook, it gets in your grill right away with Haley’s almost-but-not-quite accusatory lyrics. And its just a party song from there on it. A party of pure bliss because how can anyone have a bad time while listening to it? And is this that not the best music video?

Nobody is gonna guess #1, but if you can I will let you pick the subject matter of the Flava’d Fifty 3. Or if you’re a hater, you can pick no FF3 and never have to suffer through my lists again. Can the stakes be higher? I think not. See you tomorrow.

At the end of every line, you’ve been always on my mind

1. Need To Feel Your Love by Sheer Mag

So we come to the end of 2017, and just like 2016 it is new artist on their debut album conquering all competition. And like Against the Current, they could have filled up the whole list with songs. However, since it was rather late to the party and already getting #1, I figured Sheer Mag had enough representation.

I’m not even sure what genre to throw this in. Groovy punk? Sheer Mag mixes modern day garage style punk-rock with their love for late 70s music like Thin Lizzy and Earth, Wind and Fire. Those two wouldn’t normally work together, but as evidenced in the video above they are able to spin this sound into gold. And like most of my favorite albums, every song is unique and different than the one that comes before and after. The only thing that is consistent is quality. And while Christina’s vocals are rough at first, we soon realize just how passion she is throwing into every line. The instrumental work is also among the best in the industry. So much confidence and control while sailing into uncharted waters. Need To Feel Your Love, both song and album, are basically everything I want when it comes to music.

I’ve been holding back so much, but at what cost?

40. Temptation - Cool grove though lyrics are pretty generic for its subgenre and I'm skeptical of earnestness of a rapper with $ signs in his name

39. Missing Wires - Solid elector indie song

38. End Game - One of my favorites from Reputation, I like the vibe of Taylor coming in after the two male rap verses and then doing her own

37. Babygirl - Ok, seems sub-Gwen ish

36. Yeah Right - not my type of rap song really

35. Ti Amo - cool instrumental but leaves me a bit empty

34. 100 Letters - enjoyable pop song but forgettable

33. Up All Night - Solid indie electronic type of song again

32. A Headache with Pictures - enjoyable punk song

31. Less Than - Very NIN, but solid, one of better songs on list so far

30. Holy Mountain - real good song, one of my faves of the ones I hadn't heard yet

29. The Man - not my favorite from their new album but still pretty awesome

28. Nimble Bastard - listenable, but not a big fan

27. Delicate - Another great song from the TayLord, one of the best on the album

26. How Did We Get So Dark? - somewhat average pop rock song

25. Heaven - ok but kind of unoriginal and riding a Florence type of train to me

24. Almost Had Me - decent Lights song

23. Humble - I'm not really on the Kendrick bandwagon but his poppiest songs like Humble and King Kunta are usually my favorite

22. Can't Get It Out - I'm cool with Brand New but somewhat of a middling song

21. Let Em Talk - probably in my own top 10 of the year, one of the most fun to listen to of the year for me

20. Wall of Glass - good song but like the last one I keep hearing Oasis

19. Cut To the Feeling - I'm not QUITE as crazy about her as some of her KJ or AW fanbase, but I'm definitely one of my favorite songs on this list anyways. And she didn't put this on Emotion? Wow

18. Broken Halos - surprisingly good song for country, I can see the Bruce influence which I'm always on board with

17. Break a Guitar - good rock song although I find attempts to go 70s rock to typically be transparent

16. Talk To Me - Interesting and good rap song

15. 3 am - better than the last song by ehr, but not huge on her still

14. Big Fish - decent I guess

13. I Only Lie I Love You - Ok rock song

12. Green Light - Solid song but I like some others on her album like Perfect Places and Liability more. Like Cut to the Feeling still one of the best on the list.

11. Waiiting on a Song - Very good, another one of the best I haven't heard for me
