I'll be starting my list too this weekend. Not sure how fast I'll be going, but I'll have little write up, so could go quickly. Let's see. #50 coming up.

50. "Chop Suey!" - System Of A Down



I heard it first in high-school and got it burned on a mix-cd, listened it a lot at the time and it's made me get into the System Of A Down sound, although I couldn't easily recall other songs of them. This is probably their most famous song though and also my favorite.

49. "Where Is the Love?" by The Black Eyed Peas



I remember discovering this song on MTV at a friend's home at the time and I was directly sold. The song had an extra factor of interest because of the uncredicted Timberlake back vocals. Just like with Chop Suey!, the songs reminds of my time in high school and the great time I had listening to this song at the time.

These first two songs made me think I'm watching "Do teens know 2000s music?" on React channel.

Haha...alright, well the next one is from the 2000's as well.

48. "Far Away" by Jay Chou



China introduced me to Jay Chou and more Chinese music too, but Jay struck a chord with me right away. I learned about this particular song the first time I remember going to a KTV and it was a blast. I love the tune and it's actually quite different from Jay's usual rap-style.

47. "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj



I learned of this song during my holiday in California in 2011. Played it in the car, it was on in the club, it's the song that makes me think back of the great time I had during that trip.

46. "Common People" by Pulp



I'm sure I knew this song from before, but I kind of re-discovered it one week ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. I've had to make choices for this list and finally felt I couldn't leave it out, and it feels right in this place.

Eclectic start. "Common People" is an excellent choice. And I have always found this Black Eyed Peas song catchy. BOUND TO GET IRATE.

Yes! This list is awesome. I don't love all the choices, but the write-ups are perfect. Short and personal. None of this pretentious "explain the meaning of each note" rubbish. Love "Chop Suey!". "Common People" is a good song. And again, it means so much more to let us know how you discovered the song etc. Just like Rihanna's "Umbrella" encompasses the relationship I had with my second girlfriend - it was the song of that summer. This Minaj song is rather catchy too, and I would imagine would be a fun driving song with the windows open, sun out, having a good time.

Interesting that you chose a Chinese song. No Chinese music has really done it for me since being here, though there was one song that came out while I was still in the UK that became "our song", but I don't recall the name or artist. I know the tune, though. I can whistle it. I'll try to find it.

Not my favourite Black Eyed Peas song (that is "I Gotta Feeling") but "Where Is The Love?" is a decent song. Upon release I did not like it, but it grew on me.

I forgot Super Bass existed. It's funny how Taylor Swift kickstarted Super Bass (which was "only" a bonus track on Nicki's debut album) as Nicki's biggest hit not only at that point but so far (Anaconda might have peaked higher, but SB is 8x platinum while Anaconda is just 2x) and arguably turned her into a household name. And now Nicki is team Katy.

Chop Suey is pretty awesome. The Chop Suey/Crocodile Rock mash-up is also gold

man, that's weird to hear "Chop Suey!" like that.

45. "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis



I have favored several singers from those talent shows over the years (their songs are just so damn poppy it seems), but this song from Leona Lewis was the one that got to me directly with it's sweeping chorus and melancholy lyrics.

44. "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew



I've always felt a certain connection to things from my birth year, and generally the 80's era of music is my favorite anyway. Love the line "I just died in your arms tonight" and the instrumentals in this, it has that great 80's sound.

43. "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby and the Range



So another song from '86, and "The Way It Is" has such a catchy tune to it and the main lyric feels so often relatable that the song has stuck with me once I discovered it.

42. "Human Touch" by Bruce Springsteen



"The Boss" is one of my favorite musicians ever, love so many of his songs, and "Human Touch" is one his best songs for me.

41. Fight Song by Rachel Platten



This is the most recent song in my top 50 and I had it on repeat often when it came out. It feels empowering and it has an upbeat effect on me when I have it on.

"Bleeding Love" has a very catchy chorus, but that does not mean it is a good song. Listening to this more than once would be the equivalent of torture for me.

"(I Just) Died in Your Arms" is an awesome song. Thanks for reminding me of it.

"The Way It Is" is such an 80s happy tune. It could feature in a bunch of family movies and would not be out of place. Memorable song, but not my cup of tea. Still pleased that you clearly have your taste, though. I much prefer Tupac's "Changes".

I don't get the Springsteen love. I guess it's an American thing. "Human Touch" is unbearable. I only got 51 seconds into it.

"Fight Song" is the single most generic song on your list thus far. Songs like this are a dime a dozen.

Oh, and Vevo vids. _autism will be happy.

Ugh. "Bleeding Love". Really? All those debut singles by those singing competition contestants are nearly always cringeworthy. "Bleeding Love" is quite obnoxious as well.

"(I Just) Died In Your Arms" is a quintessential 80's hit that regularly plays whenever there's a 80's party in clubs here. As all great power ballads it needs to be over the top in every possible way - lyrics, riffs, emotions... and this one hits everything right of course. Nice pick. Awesome pick if this was Top 50 for 80's

I would bet that if you started playing "The Way It Is" to random people most people would tell you after those first couple of notes "Ah, it's Changes by 2pac!". I actually prefer "Changes", but both songs are good and they complement each other as they're thematically very similar, so nice pick.

I never really got into Springsteen. Don't plan on getting into him any time soon.

First time I hear "Fight Song". Sounds like a very generic radio pop song. It actually reminds me a lot of "Battlefield" by Jordin Sparks.

I have a soft spot for Bleeding Love, the lyrics hit a romantic chord.

I favor Changes which is on my list, but The Way It Is is really good too and is one of the better songs about race

Fight Song is enjoyable and inspirational

I didn't mention Where Is the Love before but I liked it a lot when it came out and is one of BEP best songs who I kind of miss, in general I enjoy bands with multiple lead singers especially if they're male/female and wish there were more of them

Good start! So far I like the songs on it more often than any of the other lists so far

Their best is "I Gotta Feeling".
