I don't think so. As long as a tune is catchy, for me it's a good song.

Not at all. Most of the time I could be singing anything, as long as the music is good I'm ok. I hate, hate, hate those people that say it's all about the lyrics and if you don't listen or care for lyrics you're basically a fucking Neanderthal not worthy of music.

I'm also on that side that it doesn't for me.

Mostly no, but there are exceptions. The chorus in"New Americana" by Halsey is so corny that it nearly ruins the rest of the song.

Every now and then, maybe. There are energetically or colorfully produced rap songs where I gag on see-my-deluxe-lifestyle boasting or Furious-style ride-or-die sentimentality.

Rap is shit anyway so it doesn't matter what they talk about.

If they're about Jesus the song is ruined. Other than that it depends on the genre, for folk or MC driven rap yes, for other genres probably not as much

So like every choral piece ever written.

It is a glib comment, but I presume he means For King & Country-type music, not Bob Dylan or Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen types wrestling with spiritual themes, let alone sacred Bach chorales.

Sure, bad lyrics make a song look cheap. Cheap songs can be fun though, in a laughable way.

its 50 50 for me, i try to base a songs likability on its lyrics, but quite often the tune can overcome crap lyrics.

Chained to the Rhythm is an example of a song where Katy Perry's transparent attempt to be woke makes it hard to enjoy what otherwise could be an enjoyable bop

It's quite easy to ignore the lyrics to that song, IMO.

We Built This City is a song who's laughable lyrics make me love it more

Mmmbop's lyrics are an existential take on the passage of time and uncertainty of life. Not a joke.
