What a bummer this is. All death is terrible, but it hits me harder when I know the artist still had a ton to give to the world. His last solo album was great and Soundgarden is back together. I guess the rain wouldn't wash away. ![]() |

My favorite songs were "Spoonman" and "Show Me How To Live". |

Audioslave without a doubt. One of my favourite bands. They should have produced more stuff. I even loved Cornell's Casino Royale track, "You Know My Name". He had a very recognisable voice that I enjoyed very much. |

Audioslave were a great band for sure. Those three albums are absolutely massive: the melodies, the riffs, the vocals. With absolute respect to Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, and Temple of the Dog, Revelations might be my favorite album Cornell contributed to. More than their many of their super-group contemporaries (Velvet Revolver, Them Crooked Vultures), they also transcended the dynamic of, "What if the Rage Against the Machine musicians played behind the Soundgarden singer?" to truly register as a uniquely powerful band unto themselves. I am not sure he ever entirely found his footing as a solo artist. But Higher Truth was promising; it restored the taste and class of Euphoria Morning and Carry On after the odd nadir of Scream, but featured more memorable songs. |

I do not think I had ever heard a Soundgarden song until tonight. It is weird because I am extremely familiar with Audioslave. I'm sat here listening to Down on the Upside and Superunknown, and I'm flabbergasted at why people rate this band so highly. It is just a mash of generic rock after generic rock. Sure, Cornell's voice is great and it's there but it's drowned out by the other band members. King Animal is a bit better, and I like to think that perhaps they were influenced by Audioslave, but it's still not good enough. |

I think his solo stuff could be better. Started Higher Truth and it's already more promising, though so far (two tracks in) it's not too far from country music, and the cover is a bit religious. ![]() But anyway, so much to get through from this talented musician. After his solo stuff, I will have a look at Temple of the Dog. |

"Our Time in the Universe" and its remix are the best tracks on Higher Truth. Not a bad album but not so special either. Though isn't that usually the case until you have a few listens under your belt? I find it usually is the way with most albums. They get better with more plays. |

Scream has started off pretty good. It's more sythned which works well with Cornell's vocals. |

I am not a fan of Scream beyond tolerating a few songs. And not because I am this purist who cannot abide a hard-rock/alternative icon trying a pop/R&B-oriented sound. But it feels as if his vocals and Timbaland's shiny production are on different planes of existence, moving in different directions. The two modes do not mesh, and the album in general feels uncomfortably assembled. |

I disagree. I think it works well together. The first song on the album is especially moving. |
