Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
Nice list. Our musical taste overlaps a fair bit, even though we are mortal enemies.

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
The Kinks' run from their inception to the early seventies is perfection! A bit (a lot) more inconsistent from 1972 onward, but no bother. If I went to twenty-five or thirty, I would definitely include Bauhaus, the Clash, Led Zeppelin, the White Stripes, maybe Gorillaz... But I am already exhausted from ordering the top twenty.

Ha. I thought it was strange you were so against the Kinks.

I am not sure I have heard of Reverie Sound Revue. I will have to give them a spin.

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
I consider Nine Inch Nails a band, if in an unconventional sense. They are similar to an act on my list, Spiritualized, where there is one major and consistent creative force, and the band are the people he plays with on any given record or at any given gig. (If only Spiritualized could ever achieve even one quarter of the popularity of Nine Inch Nails, ha.) There is a very long Wikipedia page entitled "List of Nine Inch Nails band members."
Rob Zombie might be questionable, on the other hand. I know he always has a gang of musicians with him, including John 5 as of late, but I still consider him a solo act (as contrasted with his former, proper band, White Zombie).

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
I forgot Kasabian. Jam them in at #13 on my list.
One more to go until I hit 20.
For the record, I don't class dance/electronic acts as "bands", so they are excluded from my list, apart from The Prodigy which I feel are a "band" as they don't only use electronica. A band that majorly use sounds and noises, like Leftfield, I have left off the list - if we were including them, then Leftfield would rank #2 or #3, and my list would be littered with many others.

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
I would think instruments would be required to be classified as a "band".

I consider electronic groups such as Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, the Chemical Brothers, and Underworld bands.

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
Nah, they are groups. Not bands. The same goes for acts such as Westlife and N-Sync, they are just called groups, because they don't make use of musical instruments; the main players just sing.

Re: Top 20 favorite bands?
I am not a fan of such a distinction. I would never list my ten favorite "groups" as contrasted with solo artists and bands. Bands, groups, duos, collectives = bands, in my opinion.
But to each his own.
