JACKSON'S NUMBER ONES IS #1
Maxwell Bows at #2, Hannah Montana #3 and All Time Low #9, But Michael Jackson Continues His Reign with five of the Top 10, 10 of Top 50

July 14, 2009

Michael Jackson may still be dead, but the record biz he left behind is alive and kicking.

The King of Pop reigns supreme once again, with five of the Top 10 and 10 of the Top 50, including the Jackson 5’s Ultimate Collection on Motown at #13.

Epic’s Number Ones collection leads the way, with a total of 333k, just enough to top Columbia Records soul man Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night, his first album in eight years, which bows at #2, with a robust 311k, a real triumph for Steve Barnett and his label team.

The other Jackson titles in the Top 10 include Thriller (#3), Essential (#5), Off the Wall (#7) and Bad (#8), with Ultimate Collection (#13), HIStory Greatest Hits Vol. 1 (#28), Invincible (#41) and HIStory—Past Present & Future (#43) all scoring in the Top 50.

Thriller is up 32%, Essential 9%, Off the Wall 104%, Bad 321% and Dangerous 160%, while Jackson 5’s Ultimate Collection, HIStory Greatest Hits, Vol. 1, Invincible and History—Past, Present & Future all enter the Top 50 for the first time.

Disney’s Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack to the TV show bows at #4 and Hopeless’ indie-emo-rockers All Time Low debuts at #9 alongside holdovers such as Sony Music’s Now 31 and Interscope’s Black Eyes Peas (#10).

Thanks to the late superstar, Sony Music nabs seven of the Top 10.

Other chart newcomers include Interscope party rappers LMFAO (#42), Metal Blade’s Job for a Cowboy (#46) and a re-entry for Big Machine’s self-titled Taylor Swift debut.

Hitting the streets this week are the new one from 19/RCA/RMG’s Daughtry, as well as Third Man’s The Dead Weather, Capitol’s Twista and Kedar/Fontana’s Joe. The following week (7/21), look for 19/Jive/JLG’s Jordin Sparks and Hollywood’s Demi Lovato.

Thriller was declared 28 times platinum earlier this year. It very well looks like it could go triple diamond!

Yup.

411,820 in UK.

625,000 - 675,000 expected here.

70,000 in Australia

With Christmas sales likely to be huge, and a start like that, this could potentially be the biggest album of the year.

Since its release last week, Boyle's album has sold almost 3 million copies worldwide and hit the #1 spot in Australia, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. By the time of its official release, it had also become the biggest pre-order in the history of the Amazon.com music store and, according to Columbia, broken pre-sales records on QVC and Barnes & Noble online.

It's not gonna stop either with Christmas up ahead. We might have another Josh Groban-type run here.

Amazingly Katy has had five no. 1 singles off her current album. On another note the album itself has only sold 1.7 mln copies. Great feat nonetheless. I'd like to know the total digital song purchases she's had for songs on the album.

She would have been great on the x factor .

Congratulations to Adele for finally getting a ballad back to the top of the Hot 100. It's been over 3 years since the last ballad that hit #1 (Rihanna's Take A Bow). It's a refreshing change of pace.

First Idol winner to debut at #1 since Ruben Studdard. I dont like the kid but his gonna do pretty good.
He going to beat Lee's album sale in just one week :P and like half of Kris Allen's sales.

Idol Winner McCreery Will Debut at #1 with 150-175k
October 5, 2011

This is one Idol winner who is living up to the hype.
Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope artist Scott McCreery’s debut studio effort, Clear as Day, will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart with between 150-175k.

That was based on one-day sales figures from those music retailers who aren’t otherwise occupied selling albums to the Wall Street protestors.

The only previous Idol winners who can make that claim are first-season champ Kelly Clarkson, whose RCA debut Thankful, went straight to #1 in 2003, and second season winner Ruben Studdard's album Soulful, later that same year. Carrie Underwood didn’t debut at #1 until her second album, Carnival Ride, entered at the top spot in 2007. Daughtry was an Idol runner-up whose second album, 2009’s Leave This Town, debuted at #1.

Sire group Jack’s Mannequin, fronted by ex-Something Corporate member and cancer survivor Andrew McMahon, will see its third album, People and Things, with between 35-40k in first-week sales.

Cherrytree/Interscope Canadian singer-songwriter Feist, who nabbed four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, for the 2007 album, The Reminder, returns with Metals, her first release since then, on target for between 30-35k.

ILG-distribbed Tallahassee, FL, rockers Mayday Parade’s self-titled third album is looking at sales estimates of 25-30k.

Veteran Curb country artist Rodney Atkins’ fourth studio album, Take a Back Road, should do in the neighborhood of 20-25k.

Longtime Epitaph emo-rockers New Found Glory are back with their seventh album, Radiosurgery, boasting a projected sales total of 15-20k.

Teleprompt/Warner Bros.’ New Orleans alternative rock band Mutemath, are looking at estimates of 15-18k for their third album, Odd Soul. The group received a Grammy nomination in 2008 in the Best Short Form Video category for their clip, “Typical.”

Album sales were up 5% vs. last week, up 5% vs. same week last year and up 3% year to date.

Track sales were down 2% vs. last week, up 5% vs. same week last year and up 11% year to date.

TEA (Track Equivalent Album) were are up 3% vs. last week, up 5% vs. same week last year and up 5% year to date.

C’mon, being up is better than being down.
