Has anyone here ever been selected (randomly) to complete this thing from the U.S. Census? I've been getting tons of letters on it (like the ONLY things actually arriving in the mail for me in a timely manner these days), and after doing A LOT of research, it appears 100% legit, and if it's not filled out, you could be fined and/or face jail time since it's required by law. And people have been based on what I've researched. Apparently 3.5 million households are randomly selected to fill it out.

And I'm filling this thing out right now and it's SO intrusive. You wouldn't believe some of the questions. Here are a few of just the almost 50 PERSONAL questions, let alone the dozens of housing and basic questions...

Do you have trouble bathing? (What?)
Do you have trouble climbing stairs? (Depends on the time of day.)
Do you use a laptop? How is your service provided?
Do you have a phone at your home?
Did you pay a bill last week? If so, what utility and how much?
Is your house insured? What kind of insurance? How is it payed, by you or the bank? How much do you pay?
Are you able to run errands without difficulty, such as shortness of breath?
Name and address of employer? How many hours a week? How much pay? What time do you go to work? How far do you travel? When do you arrive at work? What is your primary activity at this job?

I'm not really the "Big Brother is always watching" type, but good grief.

That's interesting. I know you have already done it but please make sure it's legit, maybe call some government lines to confirm its validity.

Strange. I thought it was illegitimate until I did the research. Some of these questions appear to be aimed at developing a profile of the disabled population.

Yeah. It's a real thing, so I wouldn't chance ignoring it if you (or anyone) ever gets randomly selected to fill it out just in case they would fine and/or give you jail time. I couldn't find a lot regarding the penalties, but there are recorded cases of individuals being fined and receiving 30-day jail time.

I understand wanting to get an idea of "who" is living "where" and all in regard to helping the community with funds and everything, it's just some of the questions are quite intrusive and IF someone with access to the information would have malicious content, it'd certainly give them a much easier path to stealing the person's identity.

Again, I'm not really the anti-government, "big brother is watching me" type, but I also think the information that you have no choice to give up (unless you're willing to take the penalties...), is a bit too intrusive/privacy invading. And regarding gathering data on a community such as disabilities/health issues, financial situation, asset information, etc., you'd think it could be done by more convenient means such as hospitals reporting data, banks reporting mortgage/loan data, and institutions that assist the poor also reporting data in an area too.
