Great quote from Idris Elba today:

“But the thing about freedom of speech is that its not suitable for everyone. That’s why we have a rating system. We tell you this particular content is rated U, PG, 15, 18. To mock the truth, you have to know the truth. But to censor racist themes within a show, to pull it - wait a second, I think viewers should know people made shows like this.”

Totally agreed. The past needs to be remembered. It does not need to be glorified and they do not mean the same thing.

Yep that's correct. Not every material is suitable for everyone so if you don't like it stop watching it. The old content that has already been made represents the point of view of that generation and actually helps us remember what was tolerant back then. Doesn't say anything about it being right or wrong.

It's like saying that we should not show war on screen because that might also be offensive for some.

I also find it interesting that there's ZERO mention of any of the anti-semitic comments by Ice Cube, DeSean Jackson, & Nick Cannon anywhere at all on the AVclub. There's plenty of vague stuff about Joss Whedon somehow being a jerk (details don't matter, apparently), the latest sexual assault allegations against an Entourage cast member, and various other BLM updates but covering this topic doesn't seem up their alley. Maybe they're working on a piece right now for all I know, but should the complete radio silence on this topic continue well then that suggests pretty clearly they don't consider it worth reporting for some reason.

Odd ;)

EDIT:
https://news.avclub.com/nick-cannon-apo ... 1844399778

Hey look, they kind of heard me! I say "kind of" as this article is rather soft, especially for the AVclub who generally lay into *every* accusation of racism/sexism with full snarky abandon. The comments, thankfully, are also a chorus of people wondering why such a passive, non-article took so long in the first place considering the extreme tone of Cannon's comments.

Cannon keeps his main job as Masked Singer host. I asked one of my black friends on insta why people are defending him so hard and got a “Im not having this conversation with you” response. Frustrating. This is a really stupid hill for BLM2020 to die on.

Anti-semitism operates in a confusing place for woke mob because they made up their own definition of racism that allowed them to be racist towards white people, by claiming groups that were historically oppressed can’t be racist towards oppressors. Jews were obviously oppressed, but most in the US also have white skin. So they have to decide whether to include them in the oppressed group with black people and transgenders, or whether to count them as white oppressors which would allow them to be racist towards them. They may have to make the same decision about white transgender people at some point whether they are the oppressed cause they’re trans or the oppressor because they’re white.

This an interesting narrative to watch, especially in regards to Hollywood. While the Jewish historically have dominated Hollywood especially behind the scenes, the most bankable top movie stars in recent years have been black. The top prime time tv show hosts are also black rather than Jewish. "Black" movies have been winning Best Picture more often than "Jewish" movies recently as well.

In NFL, according to https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/je ... league-nfl, if I'm counting right, 15 NFL teams have Jewish owners. Meanwhile most of the players are black with Julian Edelman being one of the few notable Jews.

In the music industry, the top selling and most popular musicians are black. I don't really know what % of the record label owners and executives are Jewish (I'm just aware that Clive Davis is Jewish) but it wouldn't surprise me either if they also dominate the music industry.

It shouldn't be surprising that people like Nick Cannon, Desean Jackson, and Ice Cube would push the narrative of Jewish bosses making money off the work of top black performers.

The Jews are the only white people who were enslaved by Africans first. I think they’ve been through enough.

If Nick Cannon had said and just gone away after then who cares- he’s a douche anyways. The near unanimous support from people who usually post BLM stuff is really troubling. “Discrimination is evil and needs to go away forever, but the jews are savages.” Not a great message going into the election.

So, is your point that their overtly hateful anti-semitism and the bountiful support received for just "speaking their truth" is justified?

Supporters of BLM have been complicit in condoning the hatefulness of BLM founders and their radical Marxist communist ideology well before the antisemitism topic.

* BLM's communist revolution strategy of violent rioting/looting/vandalizing/arsoning to overthrow capitalist democracies. The "nonviolent" protestors feel no responsibility for harboring and providing cover for the anarchists, just like the 3 "nonviolent" officers passively abetting Derek Chauvin.

* Many black-owned (and other) businesses were destroyed or looted by BLM anarchists. This was justified by BLM supporters as private property not being as valuable as life. Under communism, nonessential businesses that promote nonessential commercialized commodities are targeted to be overthrown.

* Black civilians were attacked, killed, raped, and robbed by anarchists in multiple BLM-occupied zones. Several black children were among the victims too. This was ignored because people already don't care when black-on-black crime occurs outside BLM-occupied zones, so it doesn't matter within BLM-occupied zones either.

* BLM organizers put their young supporters' lives in danger by exploiting them to gather dangerously in the middle of streets and freeways. Nationwide this continued to happen with multiple incidents of cars driving into the crowd, yet they continue to do so because it helps gain media coverage and boost sympathy for their collective cause.

*BLM organizers ignore the dangers of Covid-19 and encourages large group gatherings that can't maintain safe social distancing. Young protestors are exploited to put their older families at home at risk, and this is justified as the cause being considered more important than individual or their family's lives. This is very common in communist revolutions where individuals are encouraged to sever ties to their nucelar families and betray them in support of collective cause.

* Police officers were hurt and killed by BLM anarchists during riots and fake domestic disturbance 911 calls. This was justified by BLM supporters as not trusting armed police with weapons not to kill, and so their deaths could've been avoided if they were replaced by weaponless social workers. Not only do BLM supporters have no sympathy for the police who died, they also attack the slain police's families on social media for daring to post tributes to them.

Most supporters don't condemn any of the above from the BLM organization. BLM radical founders had been openly hateful towards police, Caucasians, indivdualists, business owners, and Christians without supporters' disapproval. Yet when a few black celebrities show equal hatefulness towards Jews-- which is consistent with the BLM founders' beliefs all long--why should it be surprising that most supporters won't condemn their antisemitism either?

Frankly it's obvious this whole movement is increasing racism not decreasing it. Anything that divides people more by race and leads people to hate on another group just because of their skin color (that includes black people hating white people because they're white) is pro racism. You can't have a society that talks twice as much about race and have twice as many decisions be impacts by race as they did before without it being more racist. That's what racism is, the obsession with skin color over anything else. A real non racist society is one where skin colour is like hair colour. This car is driving the wrong direction.

Any society that's going to be more racist or hateful towards groups is going to have more anti-semitism. If you let people be racist or spread hate the target always ends up the jews... that's just the way it's happened again and again. They still lead the country in hate crimes, anti-semitism never went away it's just people were hiding it. There was a time very recently when people openly promoting anti-semitic views were getting punched in the face in the street.

As a test, do the neo-nazis like or dislike what's happening right now? Neither. They LOVE IT. They love the idea of a race war and black people and white people pitted against each other. They can use this to promote a shared white identity and tell scared racist white people that they need to fight back against the black community or else they're going to be squashed. There's nothing that's going to recruit neo nazi better than endless viral videos of black people beating the shit out of white people. That's before considering the rise in anti-semitism. The last 6 weeks is the best thing to happen to neo-nazis in decades. If neo-nazis love your movement you're not fighting racism.

You're both still pretty wrong about everything, but the fact that you feel justified is what worries me most about the Nick Cannon situation. I have definitely seen people backing off of it over the last day or so though. No more "Nick Cannon getting fired quicker than police proves you're racist!" quotes. I think people really just jumped to his defense without any knowing the full story. And they probably still support him, but like the racist whites have found out, its best to show that kind of thing in private. BLM, as a movement overall, should be still about exposing everyday discrimination, doing everything we can to prevent that kind of normalizing and glorization.

Meanwhile, while we've been debating the merits of Nick Cannon, Trump has formed a secret police squad who has been snatching people off the streets in Portland and throwing them into unmarked fans. There are many videos of this on the internet and even Fox posted a story about it. The administration is now being sued by the American Civil Liberties Union.

It is always so kind of Doctor Donald to put things back into perspective for us. A reminder of who the true villain of the story is, and how easily our standards of democracy can be swept aside when a huge chunk of the population blindly follows every word of their god king.

Are we still talking about content purge or we are discussing about politics and Trump here? Let that be a separate discussion for politics section.

I'd argue that since Trump's poor decision making affects our real lives, the movie industry (since theaters will be closed till 2021 now), the music industry (ditto for concerts), television (goodbye everything that wasn't already shot), sports and even the oscars (he used part of his rally to hate on Parasite) that discussion of him is relevant in all forums.

Nope. I don't want KJ to become Trump discussion led FORUM, don't want to give him that much power.
