Re: Geoffrey the Giraffe says Goodbye... I was never a kid that frequented Toys r Us... But it's the place I always WANTED to go to. Were there actually "mom and pop" toy shops that it put out of business?

Re: Geoffrey the Giraffe says Goodbye... He’s known, just not by anyone outside of America or kids under ten (the demographic they needed to stay in business). I’m kind of surprised they lasted as long as they did once the iPhone/iPad took over.

The only really great one was in NYC, where they had like a full size T-rex and it was fully functional, and a full size Barbie's Dream house and their were toy. And a bunch of other stuff. The majority were basically Targets but no clothes or electronics. Toys R us essentially became a Mom and Pop store because they didn't change the platform. I think the only reason they lasted this long was they added gaming devices. It's kind of hard to call your store that and start selling kitchen appliances. By the way, the stores are still operating in Asia. Toys R Us is part of my childhood memories. All those board games and card games. I remember I liked the smell of the stores. For some reason, I often associate it with Play-Doh.

But we live an age where Toys R Us, being the only stores that specialize in selling all kinds of toys in the US, are driven out by superstores and internet sellers.

Re: Geoffrey the Giraffe says Goodbye... Yeah, Toys r Us is doing well in China, which is weird because it's expensive. Usually I would expect people to browse Toys r Us then go TaoBao to get whatever they want for a much cheaper price.
