Laurel... I tried altering the sound using various methods and it's still clearly "Laurel".

This is a bizarre occurrence and makes me wonder what else some people don't hear correctly, and in this case, hear completely wrong. And apparently some people hear both? I mean, "Yanny", really?

Maybe everyone hears Laurel but they want another blue/white dress viral scenario. Looks to be working.

Yeah Laurel, anyone who hears Yanny sounds like a troll.

"Laurel", but if you boost the frequency range between 1khz and 1.1khz, "Yanni" becomes audible and eventually dominant. Also, if you're using a crappy phone speaker that loses all the lower frequencies or are a small child, you'll have a higher chance of hearing Yanni.

Tested that with my son and he said "Laurel".

Listen to these files:

I) Three different pitches. #1 is the original, #2 is a higher pitch, which emphasizes the Laurel part, #3 is a lower pitch, which emphasizes the Yanni part (the high, formerly hidden frequencies become lower and thereby more audible):

II) Gradually shifting through the frequencies, from low to high. At first, Laurel dominates, then Yanni enters as a whisper of sorts, before it becomes dominant the higher the frequencies get. Admittedly, it sounds more like Larry and then Yarry in this particular version:

It does sound like Yanny at the 0:11 mark of this CNN video clip.

When I first heard it I could pretty clearly hear both, yanny right before laurel. But the more I listen to it, the more it's just laurel.

Normal speed everything is Laurel unless you are brain damaged.

Some radio host played it slowed down and Yanny was clear as day. It was strange.

The first time I heard it, unprompted, I said I thought it sounded like "Yeah Me". The two coworkers I was with both heard Laurel. Looking it up online through my headphones, I heard Laurel clearly. Hearing it again on the original device, I then only heard Laurel. Half my office heard Yanny the first time. It seems that Yanny is likely the first time you hear it, but once you hear Laurel you can't go back unless the pitch controls are manipulated.

There is something insanely fascinating being uncovered here with the way the brain processes information.

I first heard this on Colbert and it clearly sounded like "Yanny" to me and I couldn't understand how anyone could hear something different.

Then, here I am days later, and I played the clip above and clearly heard "Laurel".
