Did not know this was happening today and I checked the forum this morning, got to give us earlier notice! I voted for Lucy Boynton (Sing Street) by default being the only supporting actress nominee I saw, though thought she wasn't really that award-worthy though. So ridiculous La La Land lost Best Song, same better not happen at Oscars. Great that Arrival won Best Sound deservingly over La La Land though. |

Someone asked yesterday if this were the last WOKJ awards. It would be fitting if this ended up being the case. Seeing the mediocre Hollywood jizzfest LLL pretty much sweep, underlines the fact these have become obsolete as a safe heaven for people to award more deserving movies than what the Oscar tends to award. Shame. |

Lucy's win was part Sing Street fever, part no other great choice in the category. Same with Reynolds winning actor. Goodman and Emma Stone were the only truly excellent acting performances, and we got those right. |

Glad that all those Oscar-y type movies that people are forced to "love" around awards season (like Hidden Figures, Fences, Moonlight, Manchester By the Sea, Hacksaw Ridge etc.) were shut out. La La Land is also an Oscar-y type movie. By the way, Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea are not the usual Oscar darlings; they are understated and not loud. |

LLL is the exact kind of Oscar bait they most gladly go for. Self-jizz fest without any new artistic merit or original bone inside. It is well made, but it's the safest, most boring possible choice Academy (and other awards) will make in a very long time. And I agree with i.hope that these two are not the usual Oscar bait. Neither is Hell or High Water. Those three are very much films that play on a lot of subtlety and are too occupied creating believable "broken" characters that enrich the movie history to really be focused on something that gets more trivial each year like the Oscars. |
