I maintain this is not good but it's not the end of the world or a second holocaust like it's being made out as.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I am sympathetic to the idea that since Trump is now Satan to liberals, it may be hard to see some real facts underneath the hysteria. They've also had a long track record of getting things wrong with him. So this muslim ban turning out OK after the transition period is up could end up possible. The thing that bothers me most is that Trump is just pumping out these executive actions and doing things as massive as a Muslim ban just cause he said so. This is looking like straight up fascism. There were some libertarians who had some hope he could do some good things, hence the thread title, but tax on Mexican imports is a bad start in that sense

I have a friend who left for Sudan to visit his parents a couple weeks ago that, at this moment (hopefully his case ends up being one of the "exceptions"), isn't able to return for school (practically the rest of the semester) or to resume his job. He has a younger sister, 19, who remained here and is fearful of being left alone now.

Prior to the election, he became "interested" in politics because he was worried that Trump's outspoken disdain for immigrants, particularly Muslims like himself, his family, and friends, who could be affected as they continue to leave Sudan in hopes of making a better future for themselves in the opportunistic America. I informed him on how to register to vote, and guided him to his polling location on election day.

And, well... here we are. Sad.

According to people, the ban on green card holders has been lifted already.

He is already starting to back pedal on some of his rhetoric to save face in the face of this presidential overreach, but Shack hit the nail on the head. There is some overreaction, sure, but it is the speed and ineptness in which he is carrying these orders out mixed with the lawlessness in which he is enforcing them despite federal courts ruling against them.

The response to lawlessness is not an overreaction.

It is a question of good faith. Is the US government acting in good faith in barring valid green card and visa holders from entry? To the latter, the answer is obvious. This is undermining US trust and goodwill.

Everyone in the country seems outraged. It can't last much longer.

How do you know that? I would not cite protestors. Maybe it is true. I don't know.

He's only stabbing me now. He's promised he's going to stop. Might as well let him continue, because it's not going to last forever.

As long as everyone is doing everything they can to show contempt for the ban, our consciences should be clear.

Funny because all of my conservative family members went silent this weekend. Not a peep. All of my liberal friends/family were very vocal.

So "outraged" is not the word I would use for people that voted for Trump. I'd say they're perfectly content with the shit he's doing.

I haven't met or heard of anyone who thinks it's a good idea to ban Muslims. Even fellow Republicans are calling him out.

That's because a good number of the people who voted for him are abject racists who don't want to be dragged all over Twitter so they're staying silent but remaining supportive of a Muslim ban.

Because they're racist assholes and don't care about the Constitution, except when, god forbid, someone talks about making it harder to get guns.

Is it not already hard to get guns? Are we just handing them out to shooters? What regulations would you have in mind?

This is flabbergasting, and more proof that he is a mentally ill narcissist. I'm tired of people trying to rationalize this nonsense. Yeah, problems at airports were caused by Schumer's tears and a Delta airport glitch. Like...am I insane? Where are we? How are people falling for this obvious gaslighting?

I'd prefer that too. But it's impossible.

It would be one thing if there were any evidence that these seven countries were planning an attack on the US. But none of the countries has ever killed a US citizen. If it was really about safety, he'd block Saudi Arabia. But since he has business ties there, they have a free pass. I can't tell if he's just really really stupid or really really hates those seven countries for some reason. Maybe a combo of both?

Guns should at least be as regulated as cars are.

Don't you need a license for a gun?

Wow, didn't realize that was PA regulation. Thought it was national. That's only common sense to need a license.

I do think guns should be licensed, but I also think having them in public places for officials to defend civilians, like administration in schools, is a good idea.

The guns would not be left where children could get them. Locked in safes.

And the children who shoot schools up get their guns from other places. And instead of the child raining fire and killing 12 people, someone could do something to save some lives.
