Mariah has been ripped and laughed about miming for years now. It's just that nobody gives a fuck about her anymore so it never made it to big headlines. Doing it (and failing miserably) on New Year's Live TV event just put it into the public eye finally.

You're right - she really didn't do that bad overall, especially when you see the technical screw-up in the context of the full six minute clip below. She's a trooper under pressure and does it all looking so fine.

She "finished" the second song, frequently dropping the mic away from her mouth to pout and grimace...as the vocal track continues to play. Triumphant!

This was the funniest thing I've seen in ages. I was cracking up watching it live last night. And I kind of loved her "give no fucks" attitude by the end of it all.

I had never noticed the OP being so mean-spirited before, he generally seems to be a positive spirit who I didn't expect to take such glee in a performer's technical snafu. Anyone who has been a performer knows that sooner or later the technology will let you down and leave you hanging out there to make the best of it.

This story hasn't blown up like I thought it would. Are people just now savy to the fact that every pop singer lip syncs?

If she freaked out it would be one thing. It's not like it was her fault. Christina fucking up the National Anthem live at the Super Bowl, this is not.

I'm more surprised how many people don't know the difference between singing to track and lip synching. Unless you think there was a band hiding under the stage, the music comes from a pre-recorded backing track. The singer performs the full vocals over top of the track, but needs to be able to hear the music in their earpiece or stage monitor, especially in a noisy crowded environment like Times Square on New Year's Eve.

Hey, we all know she can sing. Look up her Vision of Love performance on youtube. This was a fleeting moment in history.

That is over 20 years ago. I guess nobody is questioning that she was once an awesome singer. The question is what is left of it.
