Post subject:  Need your opinions, please

Hey guys,

we are having a new logo for our website designed and since we are beyond the point of seeing it objectively, I thought I'd gather some opinions from you.

The website's name, Filmfutter, translates as "film food". So, ideally, albeit not necessarily, the logo would incorporate some elements that are connected to films and to food.

This suggestion is one of our current frontrunners and I would very much appreciate your opinion on this:

Do you see what the logo next to the name is supposed to represent and if you can see what it is, do you think you'd recognize what it should represent if you did not know about the website's title?

And most importantly, do you think it looks nice?

All comments would be greatly appreciated.

I think it is good. I like the font and the colour scheme. The straight line style of logo fits the font

The only thing while the idea of connecting film reel to a piece of pizza is good, reading your post first could be one of the reasons I recognized it that way, which could be relevant if people recognizing the theme is important to you. Then again the word food being in the title could make it obvious enough

That is exactly the thing. Of course my colleagues and I know what the symbol represents and I think the idea is very good. However, the thought is that at some point the logo itself, without the page name, should be recognizable. And I am not sure whether people will actually see a film reel there, not knowing what it is. My girlfriend said that without any knowledge, she'd only see the pizza.

Then again, we went through dozens and dozens of other suggested logos and this kinda seems the best thus far.

Thank you for your insight on the matter, Shack. :)

So you're wondering how the logo would work on people who've never heard of the site? But even if people recognize the pizza and reel on first sight, if they've never heard of the site, without the word how would they know what the image means? Logos without text work for people who already know the brand/site (i.e. Pepsi, Starbucks, etc. don't have to put text on their logos anymore). If you're trying to get people who have never heard of the site I would think the name of the site is important to tell them what it is. Personally, I would just have the name of the site as part of the logo in any of its orientations, which is what most logos do outside of the world famous ones, as it is good for people not as familiar with the site and reinforces the name FilmFutter in people's heads

In a world where FilmFutter was very successful its fans would understand what the image is immediately on seeing it, and even if half of them didn't realize the reel/pizza thing, it still might be memorable enough to be a good logo. As a comparison there are a lot of sports logos (mostly in the NHL) where the starting letters of the team are hidden in ways people barely realize are there, but they are still good logos no matter if people didn't get the clever integration of images and letters, because they're recognizable to people anyways even if they always saw it as monkey wrench instead of an N, J and D or whatever.

Thanks again for your take.

Yeah, I know that it needs to be a brand first before peole associate it with what it belongs to. I was just wondering whether those who have not heard of the website before would see it as a pizza or as a film reel first or as both or as none of the two. :D

as both

I instantly liked it when I saw it.

So I think the logo works well in that way. Although as Shack also mentioned, I did read your comments first, so I was kind of looking for the "food" in the logo. I think it's a clever way to combine the two, and fits the overall representation of the site really well.

For being super simple, it's effective enough. Do I see it as becoming a staple logo, probably not. But it gets the point across well enough. I don't see how anyone couldn't see both film and food with that.

Pizza = Good
Film Reel = Good
Both = Gooooooood

It is a typically German logo. Clean, but not overly creative, and rather bland.

I have a last one for you:

http://99designs.de/logo-design/contest ... ine-562162

There are more variations on the pizza/film reel design that have been submitted as well as some other ideas? Do you think any of those other designs positively stands out against the simpler one in the first post?

Thanks!

The ones with the "pizza" pointing to the right make it no longer look like a pizza piece but the play button of a recording device. Those I don't like at all.
The one I think brings the film and food concept immediately at first glance is #89 by SATOYA, which is also one of my favorites, but it loses the simplicity angle, if that is what the site is going for.

#89 by SATOYA is the best. Where are all the fun designs? With this concept, you could have some real fun, but there's just nothing here.

#89 or #269, imo.

I'd still go with the one from the first post over all these other designs.

#89 is one of my favorites as well. The problem is that we think that it doesn't look as good when it is a small icon became it is a rather "complex" image.

Though that was supposed to be a dig, in fact, as you might have noticed had you looked closer, we actually pay handsomely for the right design.
