Yeah I post there every now and then as a kind of studio "insider" so to speak. I get box office numbers early and give them updates and such. There's some cool people over there. Nothing like the good old days of BOR of course. We were all a bunch of classy dudes back then. At least that is how I remember us.

I agree, I never realized how savage a message board could be until I signed up for an Eminem rap forum. :noway:

We were all in our teens, for the most part, coming of age. Learning about life and love. Solid group of dudes, generally speaking.

Don't worry guys. It's really me(Joe Begos is my real name). I actually met Andy in person a few months ago haha. I'm still obsessed with Box Office but don't really lurk any forums. Put my movie knowledge to good use and started making them though! First feature just got released by IFC in the US earlier this year(Hey MCG- Accent should be putting it out over in Aus real soon!). Living out in LA now, just trying to get stuff going.

What the hell you guys been up to?!? Weird to see so many of you here after the fact. What was that, 2002? 03? I must have been intolerable. Ha!

Yeah, saw Joe at a bar in Coolidge Corner, then caught his flick at a midnight show. My one friend drunkenly passed out during it, but my gf was scared - take that as an endorsement.

Agreed. I almost gave up completely. To be honest the entire forum is not intuitive. Even ignoring the sign-up process, buttons are tiny and hard to find and even formatting my avatar to make it work was a 20 minute ordeal. Now I sound like an asshole complaining about a completely free forum that doesn't owe me anything. Wasn't I voted most likely to become a Hollywood douchebag? Has it happened? :shades:

We don't have many new members joining, the process is more difficult, but it makes life much easier within the confines of the forum itself. We don't have to worry about bots, spam, etc. The answer is the same, just forward it on to whoever you're inviting.

It's all good, it is a pain. I like it even less, since I'm the one who has to answer all the emails.

I wanted to stop in to say hello, say thanks to MCG for creating the thread and for letting me know about it and thanks to everyone who has posted in the thread.

Time does fly. The old BOR forums were so much fun and I think it was a really, really great group of people who posted there. I'm sorry we weren't able to keep it going longer than we did.

heheh, The Anna Paquin riding a broomstick comment by Gustavo is also something that pops into my head at least once or twice a month still to this day.


I do have some sad news to pass along. But I'm going to do that a bit later in a different post in this thread.

My thanks again to everyone. It was really meaningful to me to see this thread last night. :)

One thing I like about a few forums is they've instituted a rep/like system. If you like what a poster says, you can "like" the individual post, or offer "rep" to the poster himself. Kind of encourages activity and quality engagement.

You can also dislike, bad rep posters. Not sure if its possible to do that here?

Sorry to have to pass this along, but after seeing this thread, I felt I should. John Barrera, my cousin who co-owned BOR (and posted occasionally as King John), passed away suddenly back on June 22.

Yeah they use a "like" system on the BoxOffice.com forums as well as other forums that I frequent. I've always been a fan although you will run in to the inevitable annoying posters who are obsessed with getting as many likes as possible and make it a big competition. Even so, I still think the rep system has merit.
