Hmm... apparently in the UK it IS a toy boy. And some time in the 80s it came over to the US and we started calling it a boy toy.

Very odd.

How do you get mad at a term that has been commonly accepted as the norm for nearly 40 years though. That's a weak pet peeve. That's like despising margarine on toast because butter came first.

It has only been "the norm" for dumb-ass Americans. The whole world is laughing at you, and you're all too blind to see it.

Yep, that's it. The world is laughing at us for calling younger men "boy toys" instead of "toy boys".

I like that where he lives people say it enough that he has to correct them on a regular basis.

I would change my life if that was a pet peeve of yours. Just saying.

I don't correct anybody. I let them remain being a laughing stock.

That is a legit reason for disliking margarine.

I use margarine.

Ive heard both terms used here though "toy boy" is more common.

I use both butter and margarine, but I prefer butter because of the taste and it melts better.

I don't think I would be able to tell the difference.

Britts that cannot pronounce fish. I mean what the hell is that? You have one food combo you're known for and you say it like "fitch"

Every American that I have heard say it says "nitch". :grrr: :grrr:

Post subject:  Re: Pet Peeves

Both are perfectly acceptable. It's more the people that say it like "nitch eeeeeeeeeee" that are idiots. I'm surprised there aren't more Chinese things that bother you. It doesn't bother you when people ask you about your love of Starrone?

More Chinese things bother me than US things, but then what would be the value of writing them on here?

People that say "y'all" instead of "you all".

Post subject:  Re: Pet Peeves

When people say "could care less" when they really mean "couldn't care less". I have never seen anybody but Americans make this mistake. Larry David does this all the time on Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is just giving morons more ammunition to think they are correct. It is one of the very rare (might be the ONLY) things that I dislike about the show.

Post subject:  Re: Pet Peeves

The "I could care less" thing makes more sense if you see it as a fragment of a longer sentence that makes sense, like "There's nothing I could care less about"
