OMG.

I hate banks. Seriously. I log into my account today to verify that my paycheck went in. I look at it and I'm like...WTF, I have a $70 overdraft fee? Huh?? I'm like uhh...I got paid and I deposited over $1k yesterday ... and it's not like I went on a spending spree...there's like well over $2k in my account.

So I call the bank. Lady was like "Unfortunately you are not eligible to be refunded anything so I can't help you." I'm like...uhh, "Yeah you can since you guys screwed up."

Basically her line was that I cannot trust the receipt I get FROM THE ATM after a deposit and even if it says that I have $xxx in my account I may actually have -$xxx. I'm like..."Uhh you do know how retarded that sounds, right? I know it isn't you and it isn't your fault but this is like the most insane thing ever, and I'm going to say it is probably illegal too...you know?"

So she transfers me to the Refund department. I've been on hold a total of about 30 minutes now before I finally reach someone. I explain the situation to her. This lady is like "Well you made a purchase at Shell Gasoline for $50 and you didn't have enough to cover it." I'm like..."uh, that was over a week ago and yeah, I had enough money then too, and that cleared my account on the 11th."

So she goes back and looks at it again and then is like "Oh, I see what happened, there was a glitch in our system, I'll refund your money." I was like about damn time. 44 minutes of total waste of my time, but I got my $70 back. Heh.

I've made errors before, every once in a while I do and yeah I'll pay their stupid fees, if it is my fault...but man oh man was I livid.

Heh. I hate Wachovia.

My story, happened about a month ago while padraig was visiting.

We were about 8 people and starving. This restaurant came highly recommended but on the way there, one of the cars developed a problem. While we got seated, we decided that someone will order for me and this other dude while the 2 of us would go find a garage to drop the car at. It was critical to do it that day as the battery oil thing had cracked and the longer we wait, the more break power he loses.

We looked around and finally found a place willing to take the car in for the day. It had been 30 minutes since we'd left and when we finally came back, it had been about 40. We noticed that people were on their entrees and that the waitress had said that the food will be out momentarily.

Well, a good 25 minutes later, there was still no food and i was slightly ticked. we asked the waitress again whats going on and she said the food should be out any moment. 5 minutes later and no food and this one guy on the table (one of the few who could speak french) told the waitress this is ridiculous. She made some excuse about the 2 of us having gone so they waited for us to come back before cooking. Sadly, the talk happened in french and she walked away before the story was told to us.

I personally never have a big issue with people knocking over drinks or being late, as long as they apologize for what happened and maybe .. just maybe talk about refunds or free drinks. I just like it when people acknowledge they made a boo boo. however, what i do hate is when waitresses and waiters put the blame on me for something that was really their fault.

At this time, just when me and this other guy were about to get up and call for the manager, 2 meals came out and we thought ... fine .. at least the food is here. 2 minutes later, another plate arrived. another 3 minutes later, another plate. It seemed like they were giving us whatever they got.

At this point, we'd been sitting at the restaurant for almost 80 minutes i think. I asked everyone to stop eating and me and the other dude who could speak french walked up to the waitress and asked for the manager. Turned out it was she.

We started out kindly being nice and telling her what the situation was and she asked us how many entrees we had to start with. When she realized there were only 3, 1 soup and 2 salads, she first made a couple of excuses. Then she brought up the whole going away thing and i cut in and told her that if that excuse was even remotely true, then why would the waitress come and say the food was just about to come out?

its at this moment that she pretty much did something that i couldn't stand for. I asked her a question and she turned to my friend and answered the question in french .. because he was being less aggressive than me. I cut her again and told her that people who came in after us have already been served and a couple actually leaving. once again, she tried to put the blame on us (she still hasn't apologized once) and in the middle of me saying something, she walked away to serve someone came back and continued the conversation. I told her that i've eaten all over the world and i haven't come across any steak .. that takes 80 minutes to cook. No Steak. She said shes been in the restaurant business far longer than me so i told her that i've probably been dining at more restaurants for a period far longer than her. When she started talking to my friend again in French, i had no choice but to play the race card. We were the only brown people in that whole restaurant full of white people, everyone of them being served even when we're arguing. I hate the whole race thing but this time, i genuinely believed it to be true.

I told her that i'm not paying for my meals. just as i said that, the last plate came out for us and shes like "well your food is all here now. Why the refund". I reminded her how 4 of us have had our plate in front of us for 15 minutes now and not eating because we were put under the impression that everyone's plate is coming out soon. Our food is cold and we want a complete refund on it. We'll pay for the drinks.

After some arguing, she walked away again and we told everyone to just get up and walk out. For literally half a minute, all conversation at the place died. She finally had no choice to give us the refund and told us she lost 400 dollars on us. I told her i couldn't really give a shit anymore and if she decides to walk away one more time, she can say goodbye to the 70 dollars worth of drinks as well cause i'll be leaving too.

Bill came, we paid and walked out. 400 dollars worth of food just sat there on the table.

Ugh memories returning!!

i use to put up with a lot of similar shit at the supermarket i use to work at. but the duty manager usually gave them the refund anyway because the theory is people will spend an average of $100 a week at a supermarket, and majority of it will be at the store they stole a 3 dollar item from.

but i was like fuck that, what about the principle.

Wow, their mindset makes absolutely no sense. You're barely makings 10% on each item to begin with. I guess the crime is just to hard to prove, even with security cameras that it's not even worth their time.

I hear though with all consumer/associate thefts at wal-marts in one year, it adds up to 5 full Wal-Mart supercenters just disappearing. that's a lot of crap stolen. i'm sure it's simillar for any other store too.

This thread is one part hilarious, one part disheartening, a very small part offensive, and an even smaller part arousing (that through me off too). Attempts to trace the arousal's origins have thus far shown nothing helpful.

Here are two sites that have similar stories from the business-side perspective.

I was at a strip club once, and my friend was getting a lap dance next to me, and while it was happening, the stripper knocked over my 2 drinks that cost $10...

I took my dollar off the table. :disgust:

I was a telemarketer for 3 years and the funniest call that I had went something like this:

Me: Hi i'm calling from the GLobe and Mail Newspaper blah blah blah want to subscribe?

Person on the phone: Sorry, I don't have time to read newspapers as I'm constantly masturbating.

The man then proceeded to make orgasm noises.

That was the world's worst job ever.

LOLOL I should've but they recorded our calls there. I didn't do this, but at that place if anyone was really rude, people would subscribe them to porn magazines and check off the bill me later option. Thinking back, I should've done this to help him out with his addiction.\

Retail sucks, here is an example:

Me: Excuse me, our store closed 30 minutes ago. How did you even get in?

Customer: I need these mouse traps!!! I have mice!!

Me: Ok, we're open at 7am tomorrow. We'll be pleased to help you then.

Cust: No you don't understand, I need them tonight!

Me: I'm sorry, but all our cashiers have left and gone home.

Cust: Where do I go pay?

Me: You can't, we're closed.

Cust: Just let me take them tonight, and I'll come back tomorrow with the money, okay?

Me: :|

I have to say, for all the crap Indian call centres get from the uk (people here HATE them) at least the people there are polite and friendly.

The UK call centres are equally incompetent, but always more aggressive.

Npower have excellent customer service. Really the only company ive dealt with where people have actually been interested in helping me rather than protecting profit.

I've worked in retail on and off since I was 16. I'm still in a partial-service related industry (even though I'm management I still have to interact with patients sometimes especially when we are short staffed like this month).

Man I could tell some stories. Like the guy who tried to stuff a size 13 shoe down his pants and act like I wouldn't see him.

Dude...haha.

I've learned though that yes, you need to protect profit margins etc., but sometimes if you give the customer/patient what they want or make it seem like you are giving them something, they'll come back and continue spending.

I see you've never had to deal with BT Broadband then. It's an experience i wouldn't wish on anyone.

Actually I have.
It's not like im saying outsourcing to India and South Africa is a particularly good idea because there is clearly and repeatedly a breakdown in understanding between consumer and company over that system which i've experienced first hand repeatedly. That said, UK Call centers are hardly leagues more competent. Infact, a lot of the time, foreign call centers are actually better at what they do - it's just getting them to understand the accent and situation which can be difficult, but to be quite honest, i prefer em to british call centers namely because British call centers act like you are retarded and a pain in the ass to them, whereas foreign ones at least are trained in etiquette to a high degree.

And to be quite honest, the benefit a call center provides to tough areas abroad outweigh what they bring to the UK significantly, and if im going to have to pronounce my words a little slower as a side effect of that, then whatever. I'm fine with that.

I find that bad customer service is much more possible in western countries. It is entitled white people feeling that a service job is beneath them that sparks most bad customer service incidents. In China, service is very good. I honestly cannot remember one encounter of bad service because of grumpy, entitled brat mentality. Sometimes things are forgotten or they are very busy but they work their asses off to correct it and they are always gracious, and they're also not working for tips so they're not fake as fuck like Yanks.

I think most bad customer service experiences are caused by the customer, not the employee. Customers seem to think that employees have all the power in the world to do whatever they want them to and that's not the case.

Says the entitled white person. ;)

Now, I don't believe in "the customer is always right", but even if customer's have unrealistic demands, your job is to serve them and send them on their way with a smile on their face. That is possible even without actually giving them what they asked for.

I do believe that some customers are unsatisfiable. I think some people actually purposefully take out their anger on customer service workers.

I've worked in both food and retail while I was in school, and I'm pretty calm as a result. But I am what you would call an observer, so I know when people fuck up, and if they have the balls to own up to it or if they come up with a lie. And I actually appreciate both, depending on how good the lie is. So I can let a lot gloss over, so not much has ever made me go nuts.

Only time off hand I can think I was close to loosing it: There was a snowstorm about 2 years ago. Snow basically ended up 5ft. high on the sidewalks after the street plows come in. I park my car. Have a show in NYC I was performing, come back, car is gone. I'm like holy shit. Some one stole my car. I call the police, have to walk in this still badly snow ridden city. Report my car stolen. I had some film equipment in there (I should have unloaded but was in a rush)

Police are great, Insurance who I called were great. 2 days later police call me. My car wasn't stolen. It was towed. For being in front of a fire hydrant (Under 5ft. of snow) Police apologized and begin to tell me this story about this sketchy tow company that waits for snow storms to do just this. And that they found it despicable, but unfortunately legal. And so I'm like, ok that sucks but I'll walk to this place. They tell me it's 3 cities over. And I'm like what? That is ridiculous.

I get to this place which I can only call the "FUCK YOU" hole in North Jersey. This is already feeling long so I'll gloss over the process, but took 5 hours to get my car out. Finally ready to pay, some ridiculous fee like $390.00. and still like "whatever" I give them my card. They say to me, and this has never happened to me anywhere else, let alone America "We do not take VISA." Followed by "We take Discover only or cash. no checks. If you have to leave, there is an atm down the street owned by my cousin. If you want to come back, the charge to keep it here again is $75 a night" Thank God they were behind a glass booth cause that was close to my blowing point.

I'm like OK. So I walk down the street, and since I had to take an Uber, I really didn't realize how shitty an area I was in. If there were 5 teeth combined between the 10 people I came across that would be generous. When I took out my ATM card 6 Gollums basically came out. ATM fee, $19. I at least say well fuck you guys, I have PNC Bank, that's at least coming back to me (Until I found that they only cover up to $10, but either way, it's a good bank and at least was looking out for me)

Won't go over the rest to save time. Finally get car back. Month later when I'm at my parents and really had a chance to look at my car (Cause I had gotten a warning from a cop about my back lights) Turns out the towing company blew out my back lights so that they could synch my car with theirs. Cost another $170 to fix.

I will without a doubt say the towing company was the rudest bunch of "scummiest washed out of everything they have ever done" group of people I ever met. All because I parked in front of a pile of snow.
