I'd say 2 major issues:

1) Terrorism/Middle East

2) The Ascendancy of China, and to a lesser extent other countries in Asia, particularly India.

What do you think?

Within the bounds of this planet, Krem, not something out of this world. : )

As far as positives go: I think most modern diseases will be cured (of course we'll get new ones) within 20-30 years, we'll finally get the flying car (but it will prove to be impractical) and the theory of everything in Physics will finally be developed.

As for negatives: Africa will still be in a state of disarray and we might have to cope with a fallout from a nuclear strike or two.

I'd rather see William Shatner say Spock, Bones, Scotty on the real enterprise. 8)

There's something else that worries me, which concerns China specifically.

Check this article out.

Also, I don't know where the heck the issues of Taiwan and North Korea are heading. NK seems desperate enough to do anything, even use nuclear weapons :? . And China has no intention of letting go of its claim over Taiwan.

The communists getting a taste of their own medicine. That article sounds like the unwritten final chapter to the "Animal Farm".

Certainly not for Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and James Doohan. I'm pretty sure they hate their character names

This is the first time this year that I've seen the issue being addressed in a major newspaper. I expected conflicts like this to happen, it's inevitable, but I'm surprised it's happening this quickly.

"After years of speculation and rumors, the flying car has finally been created. We go now live to Washington, DC, where the president of the United States, Hilary Clinton, will be the first ever to drive a flying car. Here now she ascends into the air. Watch the back tire... no no, away from the lightpole... oh god! She's crashed! The president has crashed, and she appears to be knocked unconscious. First Lady Bill appears shocked, yet happy. If you point that camera to the 14th floor of that hotel, there you see Bill, with what appears to be a prostitute with him. He now seems very happy to see Hilary destroying the only flying car. We now turn our attention back to the wreckage. Here now is Vice President Monica Lewinsky to help the president out, and..."

Oh, well you get the idea. :)

China and India will be the top two economic and military superpowers by 2035.

Declining standard of living in western countries will become an issue due to continued globilization. This essentially will bring the standard of living in developing countries up :)

The next 50 years... wow.

I hope I make it through.

I don't think a real time of unification and change will come in 50 years. My only hope is that by the end of the century, something more towards world piece can come.

Until then, I see wonderful advances in technology, war, and the troubling rise of Asia.

The eco-system in general... and the water supply in particular.

They've got about 15 years to sort that one out. If they don't, you might as well write off the rest of the century.

First of all, I think the world will end in 2030. So for the next thirty years, I see:

-More terror attacks in the US and allied countries.
-Russia turning back into a totaltarian (but capitalist) empire.
-Nuclear wars, involving China, rogue nations in Africa and Asia, the United States, Russia, India, and Pakistan.
-Space colonization looked into, but war quells chances of it.
-The UN disbanding when the Secret Head Commission (which secretly runs the world) steps into public view spreading chaos.
-The EU comes crashing down when member nations destabilize and the New Russian Empire spreads through Europe.
-And finally, nuclear apocalypse.

That is my dark view of the future.

Well, to be honest...

March 11th, 2007: Austria becomes the biggest economic and military superpower of the world.

October 18th, 2008: We will start World War III...

May 1st, 2011: We have conquered the whole world except for the USA.

July 3rd, 2011: The American President Arnold Schwarzenegger pleads the Austrian President Prof. DDr. Mag. Dipl.-Ing. Dipl.-Päd. Martin Gamdschie to spare his life!

July 4th, 2036: The Austrian government shots Arnie - tied to a nuclear rocket named 'You'll never be back!' - into space. His last words are: 'Oohhh, saaaay can you seeeeeeee, ...!'

By the way: Canada will be our only ally, because all Canadians rock big time... :?
